Lemme give you the difference to my own understanding..

A software engineer is a person that designs and implements a software from scratch.. He designs the API, the features and other things like that.. You can also say that he creates the blueprints for which the software is to be developed..

While a software developer is one that creates software based on a set of given specifications.. A software developer takes the blueprints and implements them in code..

That's all I've got.. It's all in my head, so I'm not sure I'm entirely correct

I believe they are the same thing, the major difference is that a software engineer is a professional software developer, he or she knows the ethics and official stages of programming but a software developer is anyone that can code.
People don't really know that there is an official and right way of writing code so it will be presentable and readable to people, a software engineer know how to write this kind of code but a developer might have learnt coding in his room and writes rough code, this code will work but its not ethically written.

I disagree. Anyone who learnt to code is a programmer, a software developer is one who applies SDLC principles towards building of software. A software engineer is one who applies engineering principles to development of software
