Two persons were stabbed on Sunday in a resurgence of xenophobic protests in Johannesburg, South Africa

The President, Nigerian Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, confirmed this to our correspondent in a telephone interview.

He however could not speak on the nationalities of the victims or the severity of the injuries as the police had yet to reveal the identities of the victims.

Olubajo said, “It’s confirmed that two people were stabbed at a ‘taxi rank’ and Jeppe Road in Johannesburg Central Business District and we have informed the Consul-General of Nigeria in Johannesburg and the police in Jeppestown.

“I’m not sure (of their nationalities) as the police have taken them to hospital. Their identities were not disclosed. The police are using rubber bullets to disperse them.”

According to the NUSA president, there was a meeting on Sunday morning which the police minister was supposed to address.

He said a popular South African activist, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, addressed the South Africans, calling for peace, but some of the protesters got angry and left.

Olubajo added, “Now, they are chanting ‘foreigners must go’ with some dangerous weapons in their hands. They have moved from Jeppestown to Braamfontein even to the CBD Taxi Rank in town.

“Though we have been monitoring the incident for the past three hours now, police have not been able to disperse them. Our fear is that they may start looting again in the night.

“We have sent an alert to the Nigerians. Immediately, we used our various social media platforms to do that. We sent it to our structures and the entirety of Nigerians. Most Nigerians are aware of this by now because there are photos and videos, and it is also televised by SABC.”

He noted that a lot of Nigerians lived in the affected area though some had relocated because last Sunday’s looting and vandalism of Nigerian businesses by South Africans occurred in the same area.

“Quite a number of our people live around Jeppestown and Fountain. We are talking about Johannesburg, which is very big but Jeppestown is close to the eastern part of Johannesburg.

“Jules Street is closer to them; it’s a major road they would take to the CBD. Taxi Rank is the major bus stop there. They have virtually captured that taxi rank and Braamfontein,” Olubajo explained.

They are not different from many Nigerians who love whites more than their own race.

Other races dnt go to the poor/bottom of the chain selling drugs and doing all illegal activities, south Africans have a culture of community vigilante where the law official fails. As long as this whole thing is being misdiagnosed as xenophobia and drugs still roam around the streets. It will be victory for thugs/dealers and the two countries will never see peace

White people knows not to set their foot to the townships and city slums, even my self and scared of those places ..the truth is Nigeria is exporting most of its unskilled and criminal minded into South Africa and they compete for the limited resources with the poor and underprivileged..i have a Dr frnd from Nigeria he is safe cause he is not involved with illigal activities and he knows that what is happening is not xenophobia even though it have xenophobic element when criminals join in.

What triggered this whole thing was it not the police that went to African foreign nationals businesses searching for fake goods? And when the foreign nationals prevented them, The illiterate ones feel like they now have to do the work of the police by harassing the foreigners. Was it not the reason why the Tanzanian national killed the Taxi driver

IF the police were truly interested in stopping illegal and fake products why didn't they stop it from entering into the their country?
In the whole world, there's a race known for producing and selling of fake products.. I guess U don't expect me to mention it.. why didn't they go to them? Why were they not able to conduct the same search at their shops? Are they not part of foreign nationals?

In terms of drug dealers, Yes there are drug dealers but what has that got to do with burning up to 100 cars that belongs to an innocent foreigner that even employed many south Africans.. most of those shops burnt down that belongs to foreign nationals got South African citizen who earns a living there.. This senseless act, is it gonna create more job or increase unemployment?

So in your own argument people that have the culture of community vigilante has the tendency of looting what was not there's in times of crisis? ... they do what the police cannot do by stealing from other people's sweat and livelihood right?

All they should have done is approach the foreigners who are doing legal businesses to teach them on how to progress business wise.. instead of bringing envy and Jealousy within themselves

China malls are being raided also and they dnt cry xenophobia. I won't entertain you cause clearly your not informed about south africa. You have not seen how the useless police have allowed your drug dealers to take over places like hillbrow.as for hiring south Africans is a lie Nigerians dnt run formal businesses their into informal businesses to cover their drug trades, and communities knows those shops and pity the near by shops are victims also during the clean up. I will condemn xenophobia the day Nigeria admit there is problem with their citizens in south Africa and work together with our law enforcement to eradicate the criminal element so we can all leave in harmony. The whole thing was started by a drug dealer who killed the taxi driver stop misleading.

South Africa is jus another corrupt African country that can't take the burden of the influx that is happening and they need help, currently African countries are jus sending bunch of criminals to add the numbers there.

Assuming that the foreigners were armed to protect themselves and their properties from the lazy and criminal elements masquerading themselves as people trying to sanitise the community from drugs,.. We won't be having this conversation I guess.. because they would have known that if you encroaches or trespasses on another person's property u have the risk of being shot.

I still maintain that your citizens especially the black ones needed reorientation.. Also they should travel a little and see around the world...
