Back then in Sec Sch and even in 100 Level Economics (Public Finance to be precise), we were told that one of the reasons why govt impose Tax is to build and maintain Public Infrastructures (Roads inclusive). So, why will I, as a Tax payer still pay a toll on the same road built with proceeds from my Tax? Come to think of it, if you want constant power supply, its either you buy an inverter or a generator, if you want quality health care service, you have to patronize a private hospital. If you want sound education for your kids, a private institution is the only option; as for security, private security outfits or even vigilante groups is what now reigns. If you need water, its either you have bore-hole in your compound or you call aboki (mai ruwa) for water. Now if you want to pass through good roads, you must be ready to pay toll; the same roads the govt (at any level) failed to fix despite all the huge revenue from taxes. The question now is what exactly do I gain from government?. Who exactly did we offend that made us have these calamities called politicians? While they all live in opulence and affluence at the expense of the masses, they still want to swindle us of the little disposable income left for us to manage. Haaaaaaa, Nkan Nbe!!! 5 Likes |

I support tolling the move by the Governors, my only condition is that the roads must be fully repaired before tolls are introduced. Part of the proceeds from the tolls can be used to pay for the construction of accident and emergency centres as well as other services along that stretch. We all need to understand that Nigeria has massive infrastructure deficit and government may need to borrow or go into partnership with private firms in other to brigde the gap. When properly utilised, tolls, taxes, and levies can help to cushion the effect of government borrowing. |

LordofNaija:not bad if it is properly constructed and maintained. Every one seems to complain and condemn Tinubu forgetting the fact that he is doing great job, using Lekki toll gate as an example, it is one of the most beautiful and properly maintained road in Nigeria, secondly its is a source of livelihood for those working in the toll gate so in other words it provides employment opportunities. 1 Like |

Detolanny: You have said it all. But the problem is not the govt fault. It is the people of nigeria that fail to demand better. We as a people cannot demand for anything at all because the mind has been broken by poverty and suffering. For example all the sense you made in your post will mean nothing to a starving uneducated man. 2 Likes |

Very bad. How many federal roads are being tolled for repairs in other parts of the country? This is a very important road that Julius Berger and Fashola have been playing games on for some years now with billions. Now, we are hearing it will be tolled? |
Re: Ogun, Lagos To Toll Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway by glowingflame7: 11:22pm On Sep 10, 2019 |
PureFace1: Oh, was it the political parties that were paying for road repairs and construction before? The fact is that the money is there for this things. They budget trillions of Nigerian naira, not their party's contributions or deductions from governor's salary. It's money from our collective crude oil, tax, custom duty etc. They spend it on senators and personal assistant to personal assistant of the Presidency. |

This should be done for most inter-state roads. I wrote a piece about this some 3-4 years ago. This country is not as rich as we think for a population of almost 200m! |

If that road is good...so be it! One pays more on bad roads. You burn more fuel, pay more to fix cars, loss of unquantifiable time and many more. |
