CHAPTER TWENTY EIGHT


Louis dabbed his eyes with his handkerchief as they all troop to the cemetery in black, Nanya held his hand while assuring him that everything would be fine, it was the day his father was been buried.


"He was such a good man" someone from the crowd said.


"I can remember how he placed my daughter on a scholarship when my husband died and all hope was lost for us, now he is gone, a good man has gone home" a woman cried out.


"He is gone but he will forever be remembered for his good deeds" a man shouted.


"If i had known that he wanted to give me his heart, he wanted to die for me to live, i would have objected to it, i would have said no" Louis sniffed.


"It is okay babe, he is indeed a good man, he sacrificed his life for you knowing fully well that he is not your biological father, he is an icon, his name will remain on people's lips, he has done what most fathers won't do for their own biological children, he is a HERO" Nanya concluded sniffing.



The priest did the funeral oration, prayed for the corpse and it was lowered into the ground, people cried and moaned, the priest blessed everyone and ended the funeral, people started going home in pairs and in groups, some patted Louis' shoulder while they leave.


"Let's go home now son, it has ended" Mrs Scarlett said.


"I didn't even get to spend much time with him, i will miss him so much" he sniffed.


"I will miss him too but we can't question God, let us go now" she said dragging him along. "And yea, before i forget, Charlse' mother has been arrested, she is in prison right now" she concluded as they walked away.










"Babe, so how is the wedding preparation going?" Louis asked.


"It is tiring, i don't even have friends to call for the Asoebi gang, i don't even have a maid of honor" Nanya sighed.


"But must we have Asoebi gang? about maid of honor, i think Leo will get his girlfriend to do it, i will talk to him" Louis said.


"Before nko?, what is wedding without Asoebi gang to make it colourful?, wo me am having Asoebi gang ooo, you want to have men on suit and i won't have mine abi?, i can not come and be left out, am getting the materials tomorrow" Nanya chuckled.


"Yes ma, commander general, so where will you get people from?" Louis smirked.


"Hia, see question ooo, i will go to my school of course, am sure some of my course mates will still be there" She grinned.


"Okay, okay, you can handle that, and yea, there is something i will like to talk to you about" Louis said softly.


"What is it babe?"


"It is about your mother, don't you think you should forgive her already, she is sorry for what she did" he said.


"Hahahaha" she laughed hard before saying "Leave my mother, she is only sorry because she has lost all her money, she is going bankrupt, investors are pulling out from her company, she thinks i won't find" she hissed.


"No Nanya, she is truly sorry, i saw it in her eyes"


"Is she not my mother again?, i know her very well, that one? that is as proud as a peacock, oga leave that innocent face, don't let it deceive you, she is not sorry for anything, sorry ko, sorry ni" she laughed again.


"Babe, you need her, she is your mother and she is truly sorry"


"Well, that's too bad because, i don't need her, your mom is now my mother, even on my wedding day, she will stand beside me as my mother, do you understand?" she eyed him angrily already wanting him to drop the topic.


"In as much as am glad to have you as both my daughter in-law and my daughter, you still need your mother my dear, you won't know how important she is until you loose her, forgive her and let go of the past" Mrs Scarlett said walking in.


"Okay, i will try, can we now change the topic?" she asked.


"Are you going to make chisom your little bride?" Mrs Scarlett asked trying to change the topic like she said.


"No, she is way too old for that, i will look for someone else, but i have sent words to her school, they will release her once the wedding day is near" she sighed.


"Okay then, mine is already done, i selected beautiful women as the women of the day, you both should make sure you bring beautiful people too" Mrs Scarlett Chuckled.


"Mom, women of the day kwa?, what is their work biko?" Louis asked opening his hands in bewilderment.


"Lekwanu nwa ooo (Look at this boy ooo) don't you know that i want you to have the best wedding?, the women of the day will support me on that day, with their colourful uniform, they will bring enormous gifts, and they will spray you lots of money" she said demonstrating it with her hands.


"Am sure Dad would have also arranged for men of the day if he were to be alive today" Louis shrugged.


"There is nothing like men of the day" Mrs Scarlett hissed.








WEDDING DAY

ST AUGUSTINE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH


Louis stood in front of the congregation, Leo was behind telling him to calm down as he was nervous. Louis sighed softly and looked towards the door expecting his wife to be, he turned and looked at Leo with a terrified expression.


"Are you sure something bad had not happened to her?, she should be here by now" he said checking the time.


"Calm down Louis, you worry too much, she will be here soon" he assured.


Just then, Nanya walked in with her glamorous wedding gown, her face shone bright, she looked at Louis and smiled, Louis winked at her and smiled too.


"Are you seeing how beautiful my woman is, Leo?, she is adorable" he said with pride evidently written on his face.


"Yea man, she is beautiful, but am staring at my woman and not yours, see how beautiful she is too, damn who picked the red gown for her, it is very beautiful" Leo said looking at his girlfriend that walked behind Nanya.


"You are a goat, the beautiful woman of the day is the lady on white, and she is my woman, so you and your woman should wait on your wedding day for her to be beautiful" Louis sneered.


"You are a cow, my woman is always beautiful, whether you want it or not, they are here now man, let's concentrate" Leo smiled.


"Mr Louis Chibundu Walter, do you take miss Ifunanya Cassandra Obidinma as your lawful wedded wife?, to love in truth, for better for worst, to love and cherish? until death do you part?" The priest asked.


"Yes i do" Louis said with a smile.


"Miss Ifunanya Cassandra Obidinma, do you take Mr Louis Chibundu Walter as your wedded husband?, for poorer or richer?, in sickness and in health?, to love and adore?" the priest said again.


"Yes i do" Nanya chuckled.


"Is there anyone who is against this union? or has something to say against it, come up now and say it or remain silent forever?" the priest asked as everywhere became calm, people looked around but no one was forthcoming, then the priest continued. "with the oil upon my head as an ordained priest, i declare you husband and wife" he announced joyfully as people clapped.



"I love you so much" Louis said to Nanya.

"I love you too boss" Nanya replied with a smile.
