Hate him or like him, you have to give credit to Oyadipo for his visionary leadership with Covenant university.

Dude has done brilliantly if you consider the quality of graduates they produce and the modest tuition they charge

Covenant, now solidly sitting as Africa's best private university, after American University Of Cairo slipped 200 places down the ranking into 800 - 1000 barcket would now go on to challenge the South Africa Trio - University Of Capetown, Witwatersrand University and Stellenbosch University

It is important to note that since University rankings began about 20 years ago, UCT, Wits and Stellenbosch have always remained the top 3. They have never been out ranked before and no Nation except South Africa has ever been top 3.

But by Virtue of Covenant University vision to be one of the top 10 varsities in the world it must attempt to displace the three south African Varsities.

While UI looks to rank among the top 200 universities in the world.

Medicine
Which fruit? The doctors in your hospitals both home and abroad where were most of them trained? When there is need for referrals where are patients mostly referred to? Is it not in University teaching hospitals? The quantum of research in the universities and specialized training going on there are mostly responsible. The main reason for medical tourism is that successive governments have done little to fund the health sector.

Many of the medications/drugs you use are largely manufactured by local pharmaceutical companies who also sponsor research in Pharmacy departments of a few universities

Communication":
The Engineers in MTN, Glo,Smile and the rest, radio and TV stations were mostly trained in Nigerian Universities/Polytechnics

Banking
Those who install and maintain communication infrastructure in Nigeria are largely trained in Nigerian Universities.

Arm chair critics just sit down and condemn Nigerian universities without being able to proffer positive solutions. The truth is that until we have a government that is genuinely interested in improving the standard of education there is only very little that individual institutions can really do.
Government insists that tuition should be free and does not really provide the required funds to subsidize the cost of training each student. Compare our fees here and countries where things are really working. I have been to top Universities in the US and even South Africa and I know what needs to be fixed. Many of Nigerian lecturers in top Universities in the US have their first and some even post graduate degrees in Nigeria.

Valleys:

Until this brings any fruit, it's just like any other in Nigerian universities.
About BBN, I am not that type.
I know what I am telling you as someone who works in a tertiary hospital of a supposed first generation uni.

So funny how we masturbate about these rankings. Universities (esp American Unis) are ranked based on based on so many things (like the ones you wrote up there) including achievements. Things like Nobel prize and faculty breakthroughs. Nigerian Unis are nothing to write home about. Even covenant, how has all those their research papers benefited Nigeria. Let's not even talk the world. They are mostly abstract for the sciences or the humanities. To develop a nation, you need to up your game in science and technology which Nigeria (covenant inclusive) is not ready for. Imagine Nigeria is faced with insurgency since 2009 no school has been able to produce a metal, as in metal detecting device (correct me if I am wrong). Look at our highways? What happened to highway engineering?

Glo network!

Nigerian universities are not doing bad as you want to posit, but the political climate is not favourable for invention and economic laziness that have engulfed every sector of our economy kill discovery and research result before they are born. There are many Nigerians who have been able to come with different innovations but after they showcase them, that seams to be the end of such innovation whereas it is not so in advance country.

Unilag broke into the ranking for the first time, surpassing UNN in 3rd place in Nigeria and 18th in Africa.

UNN sits at fourth place in Nigeria with 26th in Africa.

OAU fails in it's bid to get included this year.

Am not a member of Winners Chapel, but Oyedepo is a very visionary and exceptional man.

He said from the beginning that Havard and the likes is his target. .and if he is still alive in next few years, they will definitely get there.

It's covenant and all others in Nigeria now gradually.
