*The complete truth (the other part of the hot water scandal)*

My name is Chiegwe Flourish a student of Ambrose Alli university, faculty of Environmental studies, department of building. I live in a three bedroom flat with a coursemate, two relatives and a friend by name Precious Moses. Precious is a 100level student of the Department of Architecture (same faculty and institution with me). We all lived as a family. Sometimes disagreement comes, but, we always make peace as one. Precious Moses being the youngest in the house was really loved and protected by me. Everyone in the house could attest to us having a mother and daughter kind of relationship. We were so close to the extent that I could even share my secrets and challenges with her. I pampered her like a child, I never allowed her to cook in the house as I gave most of her duties to my cousin who is also one of the housemates with me in the house. I introduced her to my parents and other family members. They all loved her as she became part of the family. Other members of the house were not celebrated on their birthdays but I made sure a party was organized for Precious Moses even though I wasn’t having enough funds at that time. I took her to an eatery the night before her birthday and organized a party at the house on the day of her birthday. We cooked and invited her coursemates, friends and well wishers to eat and party in the house. I personally baked and gifted her a birthday cake. I gave her some privileges in her department which involves introducing her to some staffs as my cousin(even though she’s not) so she could be treated nicely and she never failed to speak highly of me to her family and friends about the love and care I showed to her. I did this, although Precious had this cruel behaviour which includes talking arrogantly to her elders, this made her to often be at odd with other members of the house who complained on several occasions. I never allowed anyone to hurt her, I provided for her to the extent that she did not get to spend money sent to her from home, so this made her to save a lot of money.
It all started this semester when she suddenly changed, she insisted on cooking separately, her arrogant attitude grew stronger. All these was a shocking change from her as I least expected this. But as the mother of the house(which is the role I played in the house), seeing what was happening to the girl I called my daughter, I had to quickly sit her down for a long talk trying to convince her to change for good so our good relationship could be back on board. All efforts became abortive as she paid deaf ears to my advice and instructions. Towards the end of last semester when we were still in good terms, I needed some funds to solve a problem, Precious offered to lend me the sum of N30,000 from her savings account saying she had no plans on spending the money from her savings account until she graduates. This brought a great relief to me knowing that I have a long time to make complete payment. I noticed a great change in her behaviour when I decided to travel and declined leaving my room keys with her on her request. This made her to constantly call me on phone to demand for her N30,000. My mind was set to pay her on a later date since she said she wasn’t going to spend from it till after school. So it became a sudden payment I must make. I did reminded her on what she said about the money(not needing it soon) but she insisted on getting her money saying she needed it to get a bicycle worth N15,000 in order to save transport cost to school. I pleaded with her to wait till I resume for this semester.
On resuming, I discovered that my room lock was broken, I thought a thief entered the house. After checking if my properties were complete, I discovered my drawing board and T-square were missing and after much questioning, Precious Moses agreed she took my drawing board and T-square. This she did without my permission. Though I was angry, I took the situation as a childish behaviour from her. I only asked her to fix my lock and never to try such act again, still, she paid deaf ears and refused to fix my door lock. I then asked her about my drawing board and T-square as I wanted to make use of it but she said she took the board and T-square to school. I had to improvise and borrow from friends anytime I needed to make use of one. I later paid part of the money I owed her which is N20,000 so she could get her dream bicycle but still she didn’t buy the bicycle.
It happened that on the 9th of September 2019, while the other two housemates were in school, I and another housemate were in the market getting food items for the house, Precious Moses called demanding for key to the house but we could not get to her at that moment as there was rain and we had to hide. We got home after about an hour with the key as Precious Moses started insulting me arrogantly telling me how foolish I am. I warned her to watch her words because am not her age mate, she continued as I kept quiet the whole time. The other housemate that we were out together also told her to watch her words. While offloading the market bag, Precious Moses prepared noodles for herself, ate and entered her room (this was about 6pm). Immediately she got through with her cooking, I quickly started the preparation of a pot of stew, I had to pause because the gas was exhausted. Before we could get a refill from the neighbourhood it was almost 8pm and we were all hungry because we hadn’t eaten since morning apart from Precious who prepared noodles before the gas was exhausted. I quickly continued with my cooking because one of the housemate was ill but couldn’t take his drugs because he hasn’t eaten. I was so shocked when Precious Moses came to the kitchen and took off the pot of soup and replaced it with kettle of water insisting that she must boil her water so she could take her bathe and go to sleep, still surprised, I took off her kettle and put back the pot of soup, she removed the pot of soup and replaced with the kettle of water. This exchange went on for about 3 to 4 times, I quickly rush to call the attention of every other person in the house. They came around and scolded her, she allowed me to continue with my cooking but stood there and was raining insults on me as though I was nothing to her. I asked ‘’is this how you insult your mum and elder brothers at home’’ she replied ‘’those ones have sense but you are senseless’’. I became angry and told her I wouldn’t allow her use the gas even when I’m done cooking and so I broke the gas lighter after I was done cooking and went straight to my room to sleep as I couldn’t even attempt eating again since I had lost my appetite and was in emotional pains from trying to bear her insults without hitting her even if I wanted to. While I was in the room, Precious Moses came banging my door and shouting that I wouldn’t sleep if she doesn’t boil water with the gas, due to her noise , one of the housemate went to the other flat to get another gas cylinder and instructed her to get lighter so she could use in peace and stop disturbing the peace of the house. Still, she kept coming to hit my door demanding for the lighter I already destroyed while calling me ill names. This was about 10:30pm and I was feeling headache because I was angry, I hadn’t eaten and she kept banging my door. Because of the headache, I had to open my room door so she would stop banging. She stood outside my room raining insults and as if that was not enough, she entered my room and shouting, hitting my legs as I lay in bed. At this point, I was pushed and got up immediately to act on her but was stopped by the same housemate who got her gas from the neighbours, he has been there telling Precious to go to her room but she had refused all along. Precious noise brought the other housemates out of their rooms but seeing her stubbornness and not wanting to heed to their advice, they all went back to their rooms and closed their doors tightly so they could sleep comfortably. One of the housemates asked her to leave my room and shut my door. Precious kept knocking and shouting ‘’you think you are a boss lady’’. She eventually got tired and went to the bathroom to take her bathe with the same cold water she said she can never bathe with.
The next morning (10th September 2019), I needed to start a design, so I went round the house in search for my drawing board and T-square, then I remembered that Precious broke into my room to take my drawing board few weeks back, then I told her to bring them for me since she has always said the board is in school. Her reply was shocking as she said she will bring it if she likes. I immediately made complains to members of the house telling them to help persuade her to bring the drawing board. She came back from school that day and said she wasn’t having strength to bring the board, I quarrelled with her about it and told her to bring it the next day or I wouldn’t allow her into the house but she said I am not the landlord of the house, I cannot do anything and that I should go and rest. She said this in the presence of her own coursemate who was in our house on that day. The next day(11th Sept. 2019) at about 2pm I reminded her about the drawing board and later that day I went to her and asked about the drawing board but she ignored me completely and later shouted back at me that she will bring it anytime she feels like. I told her to get it before the night, then at night while I was preparing to make eba for dinner, a quarrel came up base on my drawing board I asked for, in the course of the quarrel, she provoked me and I took a belt to flog her and forgot to drop the cup of hot water I was about to use for eba. Due to provocation, I threw the cup of water away but not on her intentionally and I used the belt on her, then she held the belt and we started fighting. She used her finger to pierce my skin and I bit her on the cheek, then members of the house came and stopped the fight. I didn’t realize the water had caused a scar on her shoulders until the next morning when I saw it. I was remorseful at this point but the deed had been done and I had to find ways to correct it. The next morning, her cousin brothers came to the house and after hearing from both sides of the story, we all made settlement and tendered apologies to one another. I bought drugs and other things she needed for treatment as prescribed by the chemist and we administered on her. I cooked and we all ate as one family.
Later that afternoon, her colleague who was in the house the previous night came with some boys and my drawing board to the house and they were shouting and smashing and broke my drawing board to pieces, raising their voices, hitting my gate and threatening to deal mercilessly with me. They took Precious Moses away to an unknown location. I started receiving threatening calls from people asking me to bring 15k for her treatment of which I did. I sent half of the money that day and the complete payment the next day but threatening calls kept coming. The issue got to our families (my family and hers). The issue was resolved by both families as my family tendered apology and promised to see to it that she is taken care of. My family demanded she come and stay in the house for proper treatment and care of which she refused. She kept calling to demand for more funds of which was given to her. So it was for the issue being settled but some students have taken it upon themselves to post and share false informations on this issue on social media, blogs and even on television.
I sincerely regret the hot water incident. It was a very unfortunate incident which was never intended by me. It is not in my nature to be violent. Precious Moses is still a dear friend and I will always render my assistance to her whenever needed. Please discard what is being told about the incident on social media as this is set to tarnish my image.
