Aston Villa head to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday to face Arsenal in search of their second league win of the season.

Monday night’s stalemate with West Ham United proved to be a huge frustration for Dean Smith’s side as they failed to make their man advantage count following Arthur Masuaku’s 67th minute dismissal.

Goals have been in short supply for Villa so far this season but they will be optimistic that they can get on the scoresheet on Sunday against an Arsenal side that look increasingly vulnerable at the back.

The Gunners' defensive frailties shone through as Watford were able to claw back a two-goal deficit and heap more pressure on Arsenal boss Unai Emery.

It will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2016, when Arsenal cruised to a comfortable 4-0 victory courtesy of a hat-trick from Olivier Giroud.

Villa’s last three trips to the Emirates make for grim reading; the aggregate score across those three games stands at 13-0.

Villa fans will be happy to see the return of Trezeguet to the squad after the midfielder served his one-match suspension on Monday night following his dismissal against Crystal Palace.

Long term absentee James Chester continues his rehabilitation and is expected to return in early October, whilst Wesley will lead the line once again as Jonathan Kodija recovers from the injury he suffered in the 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season.


Matthew Targett (hamstring) is edging closer to full fitness.

Arsenal were dealt with a huge blow last week when it was announced that Alexander Lacazette will be out for a month with an ankle injury.
