I just gained admission into unibadan, when i gained admission, i could see another world entirely. I could see the best struggling while the not so good are topping d class...i could remember my first test on one subject like dat, it was a mess. But i decided i will work harder, i started reading still my colleagues still beat me in exam hands down even though he doesnt read the way i do...


Pls guys how can i be better than him, for now i think he is the best in our class... I wanna really collect that title from him...

First and foremost you can never be better than him with this attitude of yours bros

Secondly, everybody get how him de understand and time wey him de take understand something.

During my undergraduate days, I attend all lectures because if I understand the lecture in the lecture room, I don't need much time to go over it again and again to get it stuck in my memory. But for others, they may have to read over 10x to get and understand what was thought.

Find the category you fall into and maximize it.

Lastly get close to that coursemate of yours and learn the ropes instead of looking for ways to beat him. After getting the basis from him you can then go the extra mile it is then you can dream of being better but for now, you're very far off from where he is

What we have are ' the good' and 'not so good' students. I care less about first class, and having it doesn't necessarily mean you're the best. You're just a good crammer.

The guy you want to be like in 100L may slip lower and someone else would seat on his spot.

First off, University life isn't what you've been used to.

Don't ever try to "beat" another person in a bid to validate your success/progress.
Don't let envy/jealousy make you hate who you should be learning from.

Get close to the guy; learn his principles; study his systems of learning.

Quoting from Three Idiots, "Pursue excellence, and success will chase you hands down".

Lastly, remember that the best in class doesn't translate to the best in life.

God forbid...God will never allow a second claz and below to employ me in my life...God forbid again.
Stop saying Bill gate is uneducated my friend...people will be using Bill gate, Mark and odas to help their low self esteem. Can an illiterate start software development. They may not have acquire the knowledge in a formal way but they learnt something and i believe the fact that if they had chosen to go to skul to study maybe software engineering, they would have definitely graduate as first claz students.

That aside....read smart not just hard....break your reading time....try not to read for like 4hrs at a stretch(read at intervals...believe me an interval of 1hr or 45 mins is not too small.)....read to know not just pass that way it'll stick
a D student will just be aware of the knowledge
a C student will just read and try to know
a B student will read and understand
an A student will read and MASTER!!!

You hear that??...MASTER IT!!!....after reading...even while playing games or eating or washing cloths...Ponder on wat you've read...when u master it..even in your sleep..you will quote anything.....2, 3 or 4hrs a day is not bad...depending on the course you're reading

And Ohh.....be consistent.....read everyday..after each lecture..try to read very early in the morning too

I got my best result in 300level during my 1st degree and i can vividly say i played a lot too that semester more than i have in any other

Oga or madam.....the first class students i know are not crammers.
.those guys are good and really intelligent as in sharp. My guy will not even go to any night class or spend more than 3hrs a day...he will still come out with 4.8grade point on a 5 point scale and the only B he will have will be like 68 or 67...attend all your lectures and read your books...stop hating

Now, 93 might be the highest score in the class but don't be excited at this, remember, the goal is to have all the marks the school can give, not because that's your limit but because it's all the school have gotten.

The best advice.

OK well I graduated top of my class. Tho not with a first but something very close.


I wasn't the best after our first year. I felt bad tho. I had to focus on myself and become better than who I was. It payed at the end of the day.


Focus on yourself. Find your strength and weaknesses and work on them.


Trust me you will never be the best if you don't focus on yourself

Man know thy self. Been there...know your level of assimilation and the study pattern that works for you. Always ensure you cover the syllabus and expose yourself to rich textbooks and materials. For each topic ensure you read at least three textbooks/materials on it and solve questions extensively. It gives you the needed mastery cos different textbooks explain things differently. Also understand that the goal is understanding, not just reading.

Comparing yourself with your colleague is not necessarily so bad. You want to be the best and that's fine. However your goal should be absolute not relative. For instance aim for first class or something very close you can be proud of (Absolute goal) NOT having better grades than your friend (Relative goal).

Funny thing is you'll leave school and realize these grades are just mainly good for bragging rights, it doesn't always translate to better career opportunities if you don't work on other areas. Although it's still worth having anyway. Graduated top of my class back then and the memory alone is something.
