Nigeria at 59

On the day of her independence, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa knew what he wanted, what Nigeria needed…

“This is a wonderful day, and it is all the more wonderful because we have awaited it with increasing impatience, compelled to watch one country after another overtaking us on the road when we had so nearly reached our goal. But now we have acquired our rightful status, and I feel sure that history will show that the building of our nation proceeded at the wisest pace: it has been thorough, and Nigeria now stands well- built upon firm foundations.”

Many years later, what is the state of affairs in the nation? Is the nation what her pioneering leaders dreamt of? What happened after Independence?

A summary of events from 1960  till date; Nigeria’s Independence.

We got it wrong in 1983 when a hyper Dullard called Buhari overthrew Shagari who was leading Nigeria at its peak for no valid reasons , that was where the plot was completely lost

The greatest tragedy that befell Nigeria and derailed its movement to its ordained greatness is MILITARY INTERFERENCE in national politics.

By their criminal interference, the soldiers
- killed the finest of our politicians and military officers
- Engendered mutual inter-ethnic suspicion
- Supervised the infamous progrom, which led to civil war
- Wasted our massive earnings from oil during the global boom period through various corrupt practices
- Destroyed professionalism within its fold while stagnating the police for fear of counter coup
- Disrupted and destroyed the civil service
- Bequeathed a generation of mindlessly corrupt politicians who continued where they stopped bringing us to the very bad we are in today as a country.
