How Buhari Is Turning Nigeria Into A Fascism State By Farooq Kperogi by odinceblog(op): 4:33am On Oct 01, 2019
Buhari’s Nigeria is a suffocatingly fascist, illegitimate rigocracy, and it will only get worse in the coming years. Dissent is now violently suppressed. Opposition is pathologized and criminalized. Elections are militarized and rigged blatantly—and with criminal impunity.

Rule of law and due process are officially disdained and murdered at the highest levels.

The judiciary is now a pitiful poodle of the presidency. Rank nepotism and total disregard for even the wispiest pretenses to meritocracy are now normalized.

I’d called attention to several times in the past), there was no condemnation, much less a protest. Of course, when he coerced INEC to declare him winner of an election he clearly lost, everyone who should talk has looked the other way.

The next phase of Buhari’s fascism is to perpetuate himself in power beyond 2023—if he is lucky to survive the mandate he stole this year, that is.

The incoming National Assembly will be a pliant, slavish, rubber-stamp congress of yes-men that will tweak the constitution to legitimize and even prolong Buhari’s tyranny. Opposition parties will be decimated and Nigeria will become a one-party state.

Since Nigeria’s intellectual, cultural, and political elites are already compromised, resistance to Buhari’s fascism is a forlorn hope.

Most people know that Nigeria is in the throes of economic collapse, that the slenderest tinctures of democracy are being eroded every day, and that there is more division now than at any time in Nigeria’s history, but they feel helpless and appear to have come to terms with this depressing reality with listless surrender.

A newspaper editor told me last week that, “People here are carrying on like a conquered people.” There is no doubt most people in Nigeria outside the circle of the bloodstained buccaneers who are ruthlessly fleecing the nation now are overcome by a sense of helplessness and have developed ego defense mechanisms to justify their indifference to the creeping totalitarian fascism in the nation.

Michael Rivero, an American journalist, actor, and activist, once captured it this way: “Most people prefer to believe their leaders are just and fair even in the face of evidence to the contrary, because once a citizen acknowledges that the government under which they live is lying and corrupt, the citizen has to choose what he or she will do about it.

To take action in the face of a corrupt government entails risks of harm to life and loved ones. To choose to do nothing is to surrender one’s self-image of standing for principles. Most people do not have the courage to face that choice.

“Hence, most propaganda is not designed to fool the critical thinker but only to give moral cowards an excuse not to think at all.”

In other words, in order to free themselves from the twin burdens of critical thinking and direct action to change or challenge a bad government, people become willing suckers of sterile government propaganda. Nowhere is this more nakedly apparent than in Nigeria. Many otherwise sober, clearheaded people are making peace with the fascism in the country.

Blame not the Man who has become a Dictator, Rather blame the charlatans who gave him blind loyalty and cheered him on to the throne of a Dictator.

I blame Bola Tinubu who prides himself as a political power bloc of the West but turn out to be a mere pawn in Fulani political game.

I blame Prof Yemi Oshibanjo who as a supposed Erudite Lawyer/ Prof has chosen to sell his religion and conscience and subject himself to be a low point house boy to a school cert holder so he can have a taste of a bad apple.

I blame the Heads of the Redeemed Christian Church of God for first making a mistake of cajoling their congregation to support and bringing an evil govt to power, and then for a second time , not having to guts to tell their god forsaken pastor of a VP to desist from running for the post of a VP for a govt that has been rejected by God. The RCCG heads cannot exonerate themselves from these mess they put Nigerians.

I blame some Yoruba's youths ( especially the Muslim ones) who saw and took the 2019 election as a battle between the Yorubas and the Ibos for the VP slot.
They would rather align with the devil and get the VP slot, than have it go to the Ibos.

Last Last, the worse hit now by the Dictator govt in power are the Yoruba's.
By the time they finish dealing with VP Oshibanjo, he will just quiet leave politics for good and trace his path to pastoring.
And as for Bola Tinubu, if he thinks the Fulani's will allow him a shot at the Presidency, he is a big joke.
Just one word or gra gra from him will land him in DSS custody.
He just wasted his money on Buhari.

Are you sure most Nigerians don’t like it that way? Remember they elected him (or so the polls said).

the worst are those people who support him blindly yet are passing through same suffering
when you speak up against his government you automatically become a member of the opposition parties even when you dont support any of the two big political parties.
there are people who preferred to have BRAGGING RIGHTS to having a good government in Nigeria, they want their party and tribesmen in power so they can be boasting about it even if it means they being killed slowly by the same government. sentiments have killed us in this country

You will cry for long. Buhari is doing what we voted him to do. If you are not happy, go and collect from the three billion naira jewelries stolen from imPatience Jonathan's house by her aides. Long live Buhari. Mind you, don't you ever wish the people's general evil, if not, you will follow those who had wished him evil in the past and have found themselves befallen by the evil they wished PMB. Some of the evil wishers have even six feet under the soil.
