When a môronic health minister appointed by an imbecîlic president says doctors should convert to tailor’s or carpenters what do you expect ? Wouldn’t you tell your siblings who are doctors to find greener pastures in countries that appreciate their expertise ? Nigeria has reversed back to the brain drain era of 1984 thanks to Buhari and his idîotic supporters ![]() |

it ain't just doctor's.. Nigeria is facing a brain drain collapse that is going to destroy the nation.. in every sector to mention the most intellectual & skilled are being lured away with scholarships and better work opportunities.. we often think we are overpopulated.. but most don't know that in the nearest future we are going to be having problems of underpopulation around the world and underdevelopment and overpopulation here in Nigerian because the pace setters and knowledge workers would be poached by foreign nations leaving only empty human shells and mediocre talents to pilot the affairs of the country |

Unfortunately for your ilk, the rate of medical brain drain skyrocketed when ur illiterate Principal stole 2015 election. Between 2010 and 2014 many diaspora returned home. But they began to turn back in 2015 Wonder why?
The number of Nigerian Doctors abroad are more than enough to care for our 200 Million Population. Slow and steady we will get to a New and better place in our nation.
|

The problem is not importing doctors but paying the few ones remaining well enough to encourage them to stay back. Otherwise, soon enough there won't be any doctor left in Nigeria. |

Ugosample:And the funny thing is that most people don't know the cataclysmic effect of such mediocrity in a developing nation such as ours.. Every tom dick and harry now considers himself knowledgeable and would rather indulge their ignorance than clearly seek expert advice or even worse would attempt to drag such an individual down to their level and ridicule what they don't know... |

SLAP44:That's not quite true...Bubu has seen Nigerian as well as non -Nigerian doctors since 1962 (Infact I read an anecdote written by a paediatrian about Bubu taking one of his kids to UCH Ibadan in the 1970's...a while ago.) On the other hand, Bubu should have done more for the health sector. Like increase funding for example. Even if Bubu visisted a Nigerian doctor...it won't make our health system better. Our budget is $25billion. Some countries like Spain spend $100bn on health in one year alone. |
| Re: Nigeria May Import Doctors To Address Shortage — Medical Guild by Nobody: 10:57pm On Oct 01, 2019 |
On a more serious note, we do have a shortage of medics. However, the shortage precceds Buhari's administration by decades. Let's start with the fact that we are not turning out enough doctors yearly because of limited spaces in our unviersites (ironically the UK too has this problem...which is why they heavily recruit doctors from abroad....and why some UK citizens even go abroad to get their degrees!)...plus the fact that we are not even turning out enough specialist doctors. Which leads to the next issue....funding. As it is, we spend $2bn on health annually. That money isn't enough. Add the fact that most hospitals charge very low hospital fees...and you have chronically underfunded hosptials.,....which at the teaching hospital level has an impact on training for doctors. The Unions....NARD , NMA, etc have been crying about this for years...(an amusing thing I note about both the party supporters here....SLAPP44 and ...is that both APC and PDP have refused to listen to the cries of the medical doctor unions about funding)...and government doesn't listen to them. But the sad thing is at the end of the day., we need money to improve conditions of service etc. I don't see APC improving the economy the way they should to improve funding...which leaves us with 1.Taking a loan 2.Raising hospital fees, taxes, etc to levels that would allow our hospitals be sustainably funded and financed....so that they can train more medics 3.Increasing university spaces...which means that the APC government should for example consider adding an extra 2 trillion naira for universites yearly.(which can be raised by remoiving subsides on fuel). |

SLAP44:we need a revolution in this country. Our kids won't be happy with us if we bequeath them with this geographical boundary called Nigeria. In another twenty years with the way technology is going, an African kid will look like a monkey in the presence of kids in other climes. We will be so backward, talking about election violence, police and SARS robbery and no power supply, while kids in other countries will be about iot devices, programming, telsa batteries, flying automobiles, going to space and more. The contrast will be too much and austerity measures to prevent trans migration will be More. Its so saddening |

Can anyone here point to one professional or worker that thinks she is well paid in this country, except of course the politicians? Accept the fact that we are money mongers that think money can solve all our problems. The shortage of doctors has nothing to do with salary but more to do with training. How many countries in the world train doctors for other countries, with their curriculum and needs? If you know one, please tell us. If you train your doctors according to other countries needs and curriculum, that is where they will end up. We need to find out how China, India, Cuba, Russia and many others meet their medical needs more than us. Health issues are not just about doctors and salaries. No amount can satisfy any Nigerian worker. We have no pride in what we do but in what we earn. What about those doctors that left humongous salary abroad to earn peanuts at home (African and foreign doctors)? Do you guys realize that teachers were the most respectable people in Nigeria while most professionals made more money than them? History, history, history, abi o. It got worse during Structural Adjustment and massive oil income. Yet, we have not learned that massive riches does not make you wealthy. Call a Nigerian best trained doctor (not the daughter or son of Babalawo) and ask him about parasitic or infectious disease still hiding in the villages. He will be proud to tell you he or she did not learn that in medical school. But ask him about tertiary diseases famous in Europe and America, my Bobo will be beaming with smiles, dislocating them like a professor. Look, put more money and training in Health Officers (Physician Assistants, they cannot run anywhere) from the schools of medical technology and watch for Primary Health Care boom like Cuba, China and Russia. Abi Chinese and Cuban doctors do not get Nobel Prize in Medicine? |

googi:With all due respect you're writing out of ignorance. Nigerian corpers as junior doctors, regularly and successfully treat tropical conditions during NYSC; and if they don't, why do you assume health officer will ? The experiment with CHEWS, health officers, medical technology graduates has already been performed in northern Nigeria and we all are witness to what a disaster that is. |
