Some agitations are just worthless; no one need to preach it to anyone that the toll gate reintroduction is good news, especially in terms of securing the highways. Even aside that, it provide a good business terminal for many artisans and skilled workers. Most of these bottled waters, snacks, refreshments and restaurants operators and sellers will hail the idea. So many settlements along the major highways where people now reside are as a result of toll gate system back then. We should just tell ourselves the truth that clearing the toll gate was just a bad policy. Meanwhile... Are you a teacher? AerialMapper:But prepared for hold up o! If you have experienced one @ Ikoyi bridge & lekki you will understand. Though, nice idea provided the money realised is justifiably utilized on those roads. |

No, please oh, President Buhari APC should re-introduce the toll gates and continue to give Nigerians more reasons to unite to vote out APC in 2023. Toll gates that were scrapped by President Obasanjo after he added road tax to petrol as a replacement revenue collection for it, not to mention to prevent the heavy accidents with mass casualties those toll gates were causing due to when trucks fail brakes when approaching the heavy traffic caused by the toll gates. The Ife toll gate tragedy comes to mind. About 200 were people killed in a ghastly accident at the toll gates when a tanker failed brakes when trying to slow down approaching the toll gate traffic. It was on a Saturday. Many women, children, men, babies, families, relatives, about to wed couples, just wedded couples etc died in that place on that day. Burnt to death beyond skin, burnt to bones. It was a terrible horror. This was the major reason OBJ scrapped the toll gates later after this horrifying calamity, but he introduced road maintenance tax that increased price of fuel to cover for the revenue, road tax that we are still paying till today. APC knows all this, but if they still want to exhibit the usual wickedness and stubborn disdain to exploit the masses with yet another anti-people policies, then they should continue. For every action, there's an equal opposite reaction, and Nigerians will react at the elections in 2023. We won't beg oh. APC should please introduce toll gates and even out the price at 10k to make plenty money because they will need the money for their retirement in 2023. Buhari APC should add internet tax, they should increase VAT to 60%, they should add breathing air tax, waking up tax and sleeping tax to it too. Please continue to give us more reasons to unite to vote you out in 2023, just like we united to vote out PDP in 2015, and no amount of rigging can save you in 2023 after the masses unite, just like no amount of rigging could save PDP. We gave you people a solid chance to make a difference but since you said you want to be unfortunate, then the Nigerian masses will answwer you back in 2023 by God's grace. Petrol was N97 and diesel around N150 during GEJ time and he was paying subsidies, Buahari APC told us that subsidies were a scam and fuel should be cheaper. We elected Buhari APC. But now Buhari APC petrol is N145 and diesel up to N300 in some states, yet Buhari APC is still paying subsidies. Now tell me, who is the real SCAM between GEJ PDP and Buhari APC. Both are scam but this current one is the bigger scam. Buhari APC should continue, they should lock Sowore up till 2023, no problem, they should bring over taxation, no problem, they should close the borders, no problem, they should ban anything they like, no problem, they should grant killer bandits and kidnappers amnesty and pay them billions for killing people, no problem, they should give killer fulani herdsmen they are importing here GCFR, OON and citizenship and turn them to gods that cannot be arrested for their mass killings in Nigeria, no problem, anything you like do, no problem. The Nigerian masses will respond in 2023 elections. Even APC governors go hear am. Just like PDP lost many governorship seats because of GEJ PDP presidency. |

The FG is confused. Lacks a good thinking cap. I will rather they toll roads than increase VAT . Also I will be glad to pay toll to drive on a good road. The toll that bad road has taken on us all is humongous. Loss of valuable time. Stress. Loss of life, in addition to bad spots being the criminals' vantage locations quote author=Ecstasy154 ost=82880154]Okechukwu Nnodim The Federal Government on Saturday said it did not make any policy statement to suggest that it would reintroduce toll gates across federal highways in Nigeria any time soon. It said if such move was to take effect soon, there would be proper explanations on how it would commence. When asked to state if the government had rescinded its decision to reintroduce toll gates, the Special Adviser on Communications to the Minister of Works and Housing, Hakeem Bello, told our correspondent in Abuja on Saturday night that the Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, never made any policy statement on toll gates. Bello said, “Look, why the so much excitement over nothing? The minister never made a policy statement. If the government wants to make a major policy like that (toll gates reintroduction), there will be explanations, press conferences, briefings and all of that. “It was during the course of the press briefing (at the state house) that someone asked about tolling and the minister responded by saying that there was no law against tolling. So why would people hold this high as if tolling is starting tomorrow?” “Of course, that cannot be a policy statement for one to say tolling is coming tomorrow or very soon. He (Fashola) didn’t make a policy statement on when there will be toll gates on our roads.” https://punchng.com/no-policy-statement-yet-on-toll-gates-reintroduction-fg/[/quote] |
