When it comes to misleading headlines, yellow journalism, religion and ethnicity Nigerian journalists especially the news papers and TV are at the forefront. But when it comes to investigative journalism that can actually change lives they are found wanting.

Nigerian newspapers and magazines will castigate politicians but later turn around to present awards to different governors as best governor of the year; each newspaper has its own favorites amids corruption and ineptude behaviour among our governors.

The BBC few minutues report on sex scandal in Nigerian and Ghana Universities is revolutionary; it will save many lives and help students with brighter future to realize their dreams.

There are number of occasions when Nigerian breaking news will prop up on Aljazeera and other foreign media while Nigerian news outlets will play a second hand role.

When will Nigerian media play a role that will assist the masses and move nation forward? rather than creating ethnic and political division among Nigerians.

The Nigerian media just like almost everything about your country is a joke. The media is for the government and the highest bidder.

When TV stations are being sponsored and owned by politicians in the country, you can't expect much from them... Ordinary Instablog9ja has proven to be more useful in reporting wrongful acts than most TV stations and newspapers...

Don't know if you're a media personality, but if that's your excuse for mediocrity, it doesn't hold water. The whole nation's media wasn't compromised even under the military, why is that the case now? Corruption in the media is the main reason why less attention is given to investigative journalism, not that your excuse...

They are doing their best . Jaafar who exposed Ganduje, Premium times. Sometimes even Sahara reporters do their best. The journalists doing those things for BBC are Nigerians. Finally you cant compare the resources provided by a 1stworld to a 3rd world company.

As a doctor, can you compare the resources provided by working with John Hopkins Hospital to working to UNTH or UCH Ibadan. Who is better poised to make ground breaking research? Our Journalists are doing their best and providing contents to keep us sane in this insane country.

See, regardless of the "resources" provided, there are very small issues that need to be tackled which would go a long way. Please tell me how much went into Kiki Mordi's investigation and tell me which Nigerian media outifit cannot afford that? Does it cost a fortune to investigate lecturers for corrupt practices even in our own country? How much would it cost to visit schools with dilapidated structures and report it? What of the numerous bad roads we have? All these things hang more on will than resources, some are not even as sensitive as people would like to put it security-wise...

To me, it's not about money or resources as you've mentioned, it's more of the willpower and where the focus of the media is...

70% of men who are in positions / power or had priviledge are guilty of sexual harassment.

As for Nigeria media, abeg leave them with their copy and paste news oo. I can't count how many times news have been breaking on international media, meanwhile it might take days for Nigeria media to cover same story

Please what BudgIT does is not exactly investigative journalism or reporting. I do agree they're making an impact with their hold-them-accountable infographics analysis and tracking but if you knew anything about investigative journalism, you would know it's not that at all...

Whatever was spent on Kiki's investigation is not beyond what any Nigerian media house can afford. Stop painting it as if it's an uphill task for AIT, Arise or Channels... The amount of money these guys spend on broadcasting on a daily basis alone runs into millions. BBC couldn't have spent 1 million pounds on that report. Regardless of these, stop making excuses for mediocrity cos people will always apply effort and resources in the direction of their passion... That's my own take.

The media's power is in the Media... AlJazeera, as powerful as they are, are still fighting the detention of Mahmoud Hussein, several others were jailed in Egypt.

Should policemen allow criminals to roam freely simply because a few of their colleagues died during a shootout with criminals? And I tell you that most of these people that we're all quick to tag corrupt have done more for their nation that the journalists, doctors, lawyers and other professionals who have abused the tenets and betrayed the oaths of their professions.

It is always the seemingly literate but feeble minded who downgrade the integrity of this country's projective sectors. What a shame...

Lagoskind asked that you mentioned JUST ONE since you allege many are in jail for doing such. I would like to think you know many who are in jail to have made such a claim.

Now, out of those MANY, he requested that you mentioned just one and you're asking that he does a research? Come on.

Nigerian journalists are just a lazy bunch of corrupt army up to do the bidding of politicians. They cant do their job and NONE is in jail for INVESTIGATING sleaze in the system.

They write more about politics and that gives them more money

BBC is Independent,it can do and undo,it can write about anybody in any social class in Britain. No politician can sack any staff of BBC not even the Queen.
In Nigeria,all our media outlets like Tv stations and newspapers are owned by politicians or strong loyalists of politicians. Anyone can lose their job by saying or writing rubbish that go against the political connection of the owner of the media outlets,so they gat to use their sense and apply wisdom when discharging their duties as Journalists.

We don't have journalist in Nigeria we have beggars.

This is something the media have lost in Nigeria..to me the media is either dead or bought in the country...so many investigative cases for them to do but yet dances around the doors of power for gains and favour......i keep wondering if this country will be better some day.

A huge part of the reason Nigeria is floundering is due to the materialistic and greedy nature of its fourth estate of the realm!
