Who scammed who?
You better watch it. I never contacted that lady, and you better keep me away from your mentions.
And again, I told you to send me a message on WhatsApp, but you refused.
Your call.
Not my money.
And you'd better remove my pictures from the net, and I mean now.

See talk.. So you expect a standing ovation for this abi. Nonsense.. After how many months, now you suddenly want me to contact you. Well like you said it's my money.. My well deserved cash and until you pay me, I ain't bringing any shit down.

can you authoritatively say I scammed you?
Who contacted you?
Me? For a book review?
I need an apology. And now!
Oh! You are the one! I owe you no apology cos I merely fed everyone back on the rules we all made here. I can proudly say I haven't even said anything pointing to you. Only your reluctance to give your moniker which shouldn't be a big deal if you've got nothing to hide. Plus, when did I mention book review? Calm down n check again

Thank you very much people, please keep sharing your story and possibly share their monikas and whatsapp number used to contact you. We are working on creating a thread to expose them, but also to credit reputable ones so you can share those as well.

Honestly, it's evil having the that plan to use and scam people.
I have been scammed by nairalanders and even when I meet new writers, they express insecurity towards our new transaction and I always relate with them.

We might also have to create a thread on writers one should not use. Trust me, I have been frustrated by a writer or writers I met on nairaland. Basically, I have stopped accepting more works than I can do. If I complete three orders alone in a month, as long as I am happy and not having to run around someone then I am cool.

My bad experience with a writer here. We met and I gave him a work on event planning. He was supposed to submit on Thursday. The order due date is Monday, so if he fails, I still have time to extend. On Thursday, he told me he had issues but would unfailingly deliver the order on Friday. And that I am free to cancel the order if I don't want to wait. Being the patient type, I apologized for the problems he had and encouraged him.

On Friday, he did same thing and promised to unfailingly deliver on Saturday and that I can cancel the order too. On Saturday, he told me his dad got accident that he is almost done with the book. Only about 1000 words that is remaining. So he promised to deliver on Sunday morning.

On Sunday, he did same thing. Immediately I had to request for extension of delivery time. It was granted by the client and I started making alternatives. I had other writers but their hands were filled with works at that moment. Luckily, one of them finished with the one with her and I immediately reassigned the work to her. She told me she is going to start on Monday. I didn't tell you that she's teaching and I also have other works to give to her.

So I contacted the guy I met here and told him that, in other not to waste his time and energy as I understand what it means to write, that if he is able to deliver the work by 12PM on Monday, then I will be okay with it. He praised and thanked me.

By 11Am, he told me to give him 2pm. By 2pm he said 4pmBy 4pm, he sent in something. I asked him if it's free from plagiarism and checked on Grammarly, he confirmed. I took the work, formatted to Kindle and was about to deliver it only for this guy to tell me to hold on as the content hasn't been checked for grammar or plagiarism.

I got angry because I almost delivered the work and stood a risk of getting a bad review one that would lead to order scarcity. At that moment, I told the guy that we are done.

Immediately I said that, he began raining insults and calling me a scammer. And that he's coming to Nairaland to call me out. I just smiled and told him to go ahead. I had screenshots of everything. I began quoting his words for him.

It was a very bad experience and such writers don't deserve to be giving a work. I have met those that deliver 60% plagiarized contents and expect to be paid.

Thank you @mrphysics. Although the plan is actually to list out names of credible writers so those giving out jobs wouldn't have to suffer. I see your point because there are fake writers as well.

Though I am not a writer but I feel your pain of working so hard but not getting paid!
Nice proposal, but in addition also run some background check on the clients Monika and check for when the account was created and comments about the client from other Nairalanders.

New accounts are more likely to scam than older accounts.

Also ask clients to state their name in full at the beginning of your conversation then at the end of the negotiation ask for the clients Government issued Valid ID. Run background check on the clients email before sending the job if you have any doubt.

For those who have been scammed, it is painful but please post the Monika, phone number, ID and email of the scammer that way others who carry out background checks won't fall victim.

Just my little addition
They should send Govt ID. Why don't you create your own freelance account bro?

Seriously. I've passed through a lot from some bad guys. When I'm Starting out, I met some bad client that gave me 20k words to write on. He absconded with my work and money.
Another person chatted me from the blue to quickly write a job to pay 5k, he did same thing by scamming me.
So many dishonest people here. You got be careful .

1. Don't accept an offer from a person that quickly chat you up from the blues without knowing them, say they pay commitment fee.
2. Don't agree to write large projects without commitments, it will be disastrous at the end most times.
3. Don't be greedy to accept job from anyone you don't know with short deadlines.

The following monikers should be avoided as well:

FOREVERMORE
TOMMYIKES
MESUTOZIL

08141109078

And more coming soon

Hi, what was outcome of this. Someone contacted me about this number and when I searched for it on Nairaland, all the posts with this number were marked as Spam....

I had to correct the one in the literature section.

lol
I can imagine how many guys he or she has scammed. he or she is stevengerrard, aosha007, hope aganyi, lifeishope, and his or her profiles are usually old, never new. you'd recognize him or her via the tone of writing. his things are always in a hurry. life time scanner he is. he'll never rise. I met him in the industry. he scammed me too. possibly twice with different usernames and phone numbers. whenever he is caught, he changes profile and numbers. this guy has to be caught in real life. maybe by disguising and trapping him somewhere.
one thing I'm sure of is he'll never rise. nobody rises by doing such since four of five years now.
he's and will always be at the bottom

I understand. Although playing safe sometimes can hinder numerous orders. If we don't broaden out, how will we get multiple offers?

Its not every one who outsource writing works out is a scam, the same way its not every writer that claims being scammed is justified. What I personally do I request for proof that the client rejected my work, if you have no proof, then its a scam. Same thing I do for those I outsource to. There are situations where claims by nairaland writers are not always the whole truth

I write good articles. Range. 500—1500 words should you need a writer.

I believe that there are writers and client that scam people and some of them are found here. I haven't had such experience yet but from the reactions, it is painful.
The solution for me, is to research and find out all you can about any client/writer.
Remember to call out anyone who have scammed you in the past for people to learn.

Anyway, I started content writing newly. You can contact me if you want my service

If I ever had it in my head to outsource my writing I'd be asking for IELTS certification with at least an 8.0 score on each of the tests.

I so much hate grammatical errors like confusing "been" for being", "their" for "there" and some other ones which I have seen on this thread from writers who claim to write and expect to be paid.

If writing is your craft, the least you could do is to perfect the medium of expression of that craft.

As for scammers, I can only laugh at your stupidity. What comes around that goes around isn't just some lame cliché.

THIS A MODIFIED VERSION OF THE PREVIOUS TOPIC.

I think we can continue on this thread without having to open another one.

If you have fallen victim please share your story, let us know that we are not alone.

If you have any tips on how you dealt with that challenge or general advice for newbies on how to detect scammer please don't hoard it, someone might need it.

If you would like to expose certain people please do so with concrete proof so you don't tarnish a person's image.
Writers can also verify a client here before taking a job

MY FORMER QUESTION:

I wonder if it is wrong to ask for payments(at least half of it) before accepting a writing job or what other means do you know of to detect scammers. It seems like they are increasing by the day, people who offer you a gig, accept your work and when it's time to pay they go dumb. Have you been scammed before? How did you deal with it and how are you preventing it now?

Beware of the moniker Angelinax is a guy and a notorious scammer and this is his real name: aganyi Fidelis Ukwada we had deal for a video verified upwork account..which he violated a law and the account has flaged then he came back got my accounts banned and started threating me, finally after giving him an account, he said and I quote I will use this one now I give you two weeks to get me a female accounts or you won't find it funny.
He wants to get two free video verified accounts
So I went to my bank statement to check for his name and I found aganyi Fidelis Ukwada

they would rectify it. The word of a scammer is usually given little attention. Having uncover that scammer, no one here will not assume that notorious scammer's word against him was vague and untrue. The scammer decided to blacklist him by notifying everyone that he is a scammer. And the mods then didn't even check and investigate very well. Whatever you do, never work for Angelinax,

She's/He's a heartless scammer.

Took her 3weeks to realize my writing was bad. After giving me series of run around.
She claims she's in Canada, not satisfied with Nigerian Writers blah blah, yet she hires and doesn't pay.
