Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan is to leave Nigeria for Maputo, the capital Mozambique, on Friday, October 11, ahead of the country's general elections scheduled to begin on Tuesday, October 15. This is as the African Union (AU) has nominated the former Nigerian president to lead its election observer mission that comprises 40 members to different part of the African nation during the polls. During his visit to the country, Jonathan is expected to hold talks with government personnel, Mozambique's electoral commission, political parties, civil society, media and some global observer bodies. According to the chairperson of the African body's commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat, the nomination came following Jonathan's wide experience in promoting democracy and peace in the continent.
