12M or 8M litres difference?

If all the subsidy money that is used to import the 8 million litres that goes to neighbouring countries is used to get more customs personnel that will patrol the borders effectively, there will be more jobs for people and our borders will be more secure against crimes and smuggling of other items. Alternatively, they could use the money to build border walls to protect us.

Enemy of progress are the ones pressuring the government to open our borders for illegal smuggling.

Before you start insulting me...I hope you are aware it was a partial closure... and it is open for those doing legitimate business.
Shut up under Jonathan daily fuel consumption was 26 million litres despite cheaper fuel and open borders so why is it 52 million litres under Buhari despite petrol being more expensive

We don hear, can you now give us the details about the subsidy on petrol since a loophole has been blocked? It's expected that the price of subsidy payed should have drastically reduced by now
you are right on the money, since local consumption has declined then it follows that the subsidy should as well drop but I can unequivocally tell you that in Nigeria the economic principles merely exists on paper even physical laws don't apply in Nigeria i.e. gravity what goes up must come down not in Nigeria

Very dumb question.
Huncle, he asked a good question.

Most of the smuggings is facilitated by men in uniform.

Why they can't accept bribes to allow people smuggle things into or out of the country now is that there's an order for outright closure.

If you travel, you will find that filth has eaten deeply into the fabrics of the Nigeria's society.

Few weeks after the closure of the nation’s land borders, daily petroleum consumption had dropped from 60million litres per day to 52million litres per day, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, said yesterday.
Sylva said this when he inaugurated a team of 89 persons drawn from five key agencies to ensure transparency and accountability in the distribution of petroleum products across the country.

He said the team would help to authenticate the actual volume of products imported and consumed in the country and ensure that the nation attains energy security.

Members of the team were drawn from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Department of Petroleum Resources, Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, Petroleum Equalization Fund and the Department of State Security.

I believe up to this moment we are unaware of our power. Growing up, I remember hearing someone say if only 10 luxury cars are manufactured in the world, at least 4 will find themselves in African and about 2 will end up here. We have the purchasing power to be able to determine the world market. Being a consumer nation can be turned into something positive Afterall, a customer is always right aighthuh

Why go that route ...why not remove petrol subsidy in total and let the FGN subsidize, from Primary to Tertiary level including vocational institutions for its citizens and you'll witness significant drop in poverty, hunger, communicable-preventable diseases, maternal mortality and many more...

If you want to be schooled about smuggling, please ask me politely so I can teach you.
Smugglers are still moving rice and diverting fuel back-to-back upon the closure.
The people it hit most is the legit cross country traders because very rich smugglers have now started creating routes impossible for custom to man effectively,or die!
The 8m litres is what petty smugglers use to move across.
Dons are still moving product despite the BS.
And I also travel a lot too smiley

The whole thing isn't feasible especially when the country isn't self_sufficient. You can see it evident in price hike.

Let me explain it to you on behalf of the government.
As naira weakened across governments(Jonathan's to Buhari's),neighbouring countries found it cheaper to come purchase petroleum products from Nigeria as their currency suddenly became stronger to the naira, hence an explosion in fuel smuggling happened.
I will tell you this for Sure, the 8m litres a day you see up there is just from petty dealers that use to bribe customs at the borders to cross.
Real big time smugglers don't use no borders and don't pay Jack to anyone in uniform and they move the most product.
So your government is just wasting it's time and precious resources you all will soon feel sooner or later smiley

There's no border in the world that is free from smugglers and illegal migrants...rather than spend huge financial resources in training custom officers, paying huge wages...why can't FGN remove subsidy on petrol , to discourage transborder PMS sale...since the price will arguably be uniform....and subsidize Education.. From Primary to Tertiary level and it must be in tandem with international standard and watch the nation experience astronomically growth...

the dramatic rise is a function of smuggling as was pointed out by another NLander and these smugglers are dare devils that embark on suicide mission the customs officer will surely not want to try

Thank you jàre...we are not secured in anything... Nigeria is food insecured...are we sufficient in Rice, sugar, fish, wheat, milk, beef, poultry, fruits&vegetables (tomatoes) e.t.c

First, let us produce all these food items, in sufficient quantities, well preserved/stored..then watch FX drop like trajectory... But this cannot be achieved without power and some key infrastructure : road, railways, ferries

Lmao...I can't stop laughing ó...just 2 days...we no go even reach 1 week before Nigeria collapse...you're right %100...The so called Daad scholarship is not what really we think it is...but I'm still of the opinion if elementary and post elementary education is up to world standard...from basic 1 to JS 3 alone...world class...there'll be significant drop in poverty, hunger, preventable diseases ...

Partial closure of border doesn't make any economical sense to me walai.... I would've love if FG can remove PMS subsidy and subsidize cement...to bring about affordable housing and reduce 23 million housing deficit...but the story go be the same as PMS...

SUBSIDY Is a very bad thing.
If You want to know the way forward and the truth from any capitalist, introduce a FREE MARKET SYSTEM.
That is when you get the true value of a product or service.
The border wasn't closed partially but fully!
No import,no export via land for now.
Of course it is a very bad thing and we all know what happens to countries that don't export haq haq haq...
The bubble will soon burst,I just don't have strength to write much today.
