This is a hybrid painting style of African-expressionism and African-cubism. It is titled; Standing Tall. It depicts a figure of a typical contemporary African woman (AS I KNOW THEM).

I haven’t painted in over a decade. I have been preoccupied with making recycled collage artworks and quick incomplete ballpoint pen sketches. However, I wanted to submit a painting to Ogirikan Gallery for an upcoming miniature art fair in Lagos and I noticed they kept using the term ‘painting’ instead of ‘artwork’. So I just made a painting even though I knew they would take all mediums.

It is an original work, no copyright infringement (meaning I didn't steal other people photo/artwork for replication).

This is an old painting of mine. It was done in 2008 (about a year before I quit painting until recently).

It coincidentally has the same colours as the painting titled Tutu By Ben Enwonwu although mine is brighter (under direct light as against his image that is covered in shadow). I don't know the name of traditional fabric, but I think that is an "ashoke" All I know it is wived with a wooded local machine.

Back then I promoted this work in connection to Yoruba culture (Had I know there was an ongoing war between Igbos and Yorubas on Nairaland, I would have not painted or promote this artwork grin ). I drew attention to the fact that the materials was similar to the the once worn on the head of in ancient Egypt. At that time, a researcher claimed there were similarities between the language patterns of ancient Egyptian and West African Yoruba's. Personally, apart from architecture, math and science (which no ones ancestors surpassed ancient Egypt and later Babylon), Bini and Ife sculpture was superior to those of Egypt in craftsmanship (just my opinion). I guess some thing made 700 years ago ought to be better than those made 5000 years ago.

Pencil drawing of a smiling contemporary African woman.

It was draw a minimum of 10 years ago. Probably my last pencil work so far.

I am beginning to see a link in the time frame of when I stopped making artwork in other mediums. I wonder what happened 10 years ago and why I was able to make collages and biro sketches but not paintings or pencil drawings.

Anyway; THE END of this presentation (FIN). kiss
