Valentine097:When ever your bank sent you a code via text or email to complete a transaction, u will be charged N4 n it depends on the time you key in the code. If it took u a minute to do so, then u will be charge N12. They don finish us patapata for this country. |

gbagyiza:That's not what it means. USSD banking services are those phone dial banking services like *737# for GtB, *894# for first bank etc. It simply means that any banking transaction through dialing those codes on your phone for your bank, you will be charged N4 for every 20 seconds time spent on your transaction. Email and text messages are entirely different things. Your bank already charges you for the texts they send to you. |

Funny people, they are counting power outage in hours when most Nigerians are used to days and weeks without light |

My fellow Nigerians, learn the facts! Let me help a bit, so you will see how much of that money is embezzled. Here where I currently leave, the population is around 8 million, and the country produces around 8500 MW at any given moment (a bit more in winter because of heating, a bit more in the summer because of ACs, spring and fall a bit less). That means, the country produces approx. 1.05 kW per every person living in the country. That power generated takes care of everything. Households, industry, traffic, street lights, everything. That is more than enough. One plant's generator failing will not bring down the whole grid. The longest interruption I remember was just over 2 hours, due to a blown high-voltage transformer. In the past 10 years, there was no power outage longer than 2-3 hours., and the damage is quickly repaired and the life continues as usual. Now look at Nigeria. Population approaching 200 million, and the power generated rarely exceeds 4500 MW. Country 25 times larger (in terms of population) and the total power generated 1.8 times smaller. That means that Nigeria produces 45 TIMES less energy per each citizen. That also means that, for Nigeria to reach the same level, the total power generating and transmission capacity has to grow at least 45 times! In other words, for every power plant which exists today, another 44 plants have to be built. Let's just start with that and not talk about the state in which high-tension lines are, the theft of cables etc. There are several factors at play here. ONE Politicians and the decision-makers will rather fill their pockets with money, rather than developing the plants and the grid. TWO Generator lobby. Nigeria spends HUGE amounts of money on importing generators, parts, etc. Those running these businesses will lose billions (of dollars, not Naira!) and therefore will even kill you if they have to, to stop the development of plants and the grid. THREE area boys. A friend of mine was an engineer at the site of one large transformer station, almost every day, there were threats, roads blocked, etc. Well, here where I live they do not call these area boys. They call them, and rightfully so, armed gangsters, and deal with them accordingly. Now tell me, with the government as corrupt as Nigerian government on all levels is, do you really trust the politician who claims he will provide 24/7 electricity in 4 to 5 years? It makes me cry and also makes me so angry when I see how much these lie and even more how much people blindly believe in all the crap they spew. |
