We know you're Tanzanians - famous for being so lazy - you actually sit down under the mango tree and wait for mangos to literally drop. Now LAMU port will get business because we will go look for it. First transshipment business as we build and grow the port - the when we build the road from LAMU to Isiolo - Moyale - and Isiolo to South Sudan border - we can do business with Ethiopeans (South Ethiopia is huge) and South Sudan - already land acquisation has been done from LAMU all the way to South Sudan border - this will be huge corridor for a highway, pipeline and all amenities - we are spending 23B dollars here to build cities, port, oil & minning industry. LAMU as we speak is ready for business.. Here are 21 shipping lines - inspecting the port. Maeserk is among the first one to make a port of call soon. oday senior representatives of over 20 shipping lines were hosted by the @lapsset Director General and taken on a tour of Lamu Port. Shipping lines have expressed satisfaction in the preparedness of the Port for business. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EG6qcB5WoAEk-S2.jpg And Tullow were also in LAMU to check the port - we are expecting to ship 80,000 barrels daily as a start. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EG5fXNnW4AED3__.jpg Kazikazi: |

Not seeing nothing. What are the arrows. Kenya started long time ago with EPZ/SEZ- you think we are Africa biggest apparell exporter - for nothing. We beat Madasgar & Lesotho - and export nearly 800M dollars worth of goods from EPZ - with half going United States under AGOA. Kenya - CANNOT EVER be compared to Tanzania. In 2018, EPZ companies exported goods worth Sh72 billion, a good chunk of which was textiles. The value of the exports under Agoa increased significantly by 25.8 per cent from Sh33.1 billion in 2017 to Sh41.6 billion in 2018, official data shows. Kazikazi: |

Mkenya2019:Just let the Ethiopians go where their heart desires. They have made peace with Eritrea! PM abiy received Nobel Peace prize for that. Again they have bought stakes in Djibouti and Somalia's ports. The matter of the fact is Ethiopia is out..for good.South Sudan is a very small economy. Its less than 5b.You can't build a big port by depending on south Sudan. LAMU as we speak isn't ready. No connecting roads to Lamu. No railway to Lamu. How can you have a modern port without proper connection with railway network? Where did you saw a big port without railway system in place? |
| Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Mkenya2019: 11:28am On Oct 21, 2019 |
Ethiopia is huge country - like Tanzania - and will need several ports - the distance from Adis Abab to Moyale is 700kms - the distance from Lamu to Moyale...is about 700kms. Now imagine if any one in Southern Ethiopia want to ship something...from Eritrea (Asmara) to Adis Abab is 1,500kms. The add another say 300-700Kms - so basically on average to ship something from Asmara to Southern Ethiopia is 2,000Kms.From port of Djibouti to Adis is 900kms. Then add another 500. Roughly 1,500kms for any southern ethiopean company to ship. That makes LAMU with roughly 1000kms to most of Southern Ethiopia the best option. So LAMU port make economic sense for Southern Ethiopia - it's near the border. The road btw Lamu to Isiolo is being built. Isiolo to Moyale is already built.South Sudan will grow - they have oil. They just need peace. Here is their ambassador in Lamu last month The Ambassador appreciated the commitment of the government of Kenya and pledged support & commitment of The Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in realizing the #LAPSSET projects to expedite regional growth. "I was present on March 2nd, 2012 when this project was launched by the 3 partner states' Leaders & I appreciate that #LAPSSET is no longer a dream but a reality" Ambassador Meles Alem of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EFMgr1pWsAIEPGN.jpg Kazikazi: |

Abohboy:change is inevitable bro. People are now embracing the white culture and it will be quite difficult for a go back. But if we try and do a replica of those old designs in a modernity way, it will be well, the only thing that we can do now is to preserve the historic sites and cultures that our fore fathers left and keep embracing it. |

Mkenya2019:You are just forcing me to accept unfeasible Lamu port to be feasible! Dude, Lamu is too far from any Ethiopian city or town! From Dolo in Ethiopia to Mogadishu port via luug is much more shorter than Moyale to Lamu. Dolo bay to Mogadishu is about 400kms only! That is the reason why the Ethiopians have taken stake in Somalia's port. Your Lamu is too far,too expensive for Ethiopia to access. The only good explanations for Ethiopians to consider a Lamu port is just they will use it for emergency in case there is storms in other neighboring ports |

How did I force you? Or the poor grasp of English coming to bite again? Ethiopia is a huge country - Asmara and Sudan port make sense for northern ethiopia. Central Ethiopia (Addis Ababa) & Eastern Ethiopia make sense to use Djiboutti and Somaliland ports (Hergeissa). Now the southern Ethiopia - and there are many towns - make sense to use LAMU.For example - from industrial city of Hawassa - all the way to Moyale - will find Lamu port very competitive. It will be max of 1,200kms to LAMU port - about same distance from btw Nairobi & Kampala...so if Ugandans find Mombasa competitive...Ethiopeans in Southern region will find LAMU equally good for business. I know you're envious as we deepen our relationship with Ethiopia and dump your lazy arse .First we are going to buy 400Mws of their cheap hydros - and they are going to use LAMU port. We are nearly done building the infrastructure for both export of power and the road network. Eventually we will build a railway network from LAMU to both Ethiopean and Sudan border. We are going to see lot more trade, tourism and travel btw Kenya and Ethiopia. It's already starting to happen after Isiolo - Moyale road was completed. The plan is to build expressway from Nairobi to Isiolo in near future. Nairobi to Nyeri is already ready to start. Pray for your maize & beans farmers - because Kenyans are going to be buying a lot of Ethiopian cereals. Kazikazi: |

Mkenya2019:You can see which countries are going to be leading Africa and I am loving all of this news of new ports and railways Cameroon canceled their port because of lack of funding so now they are looking at Nigeria for the bakasi deep seaport which is very close to Cameroon and when the coastal rail line is complete it will be extended to Benin and Cameroon Who just may start using our ports and buying our goods because well ours is better same case for Kenya as they as more people will use their ports because it is faster more efficient and much larger creating Kenya a lot of money I did a bit of research and the Lamu port is much bigger than the lekki and the bakasi deep seaports Lamy will handle 25 million TEUs whilst lekki will handle 10 million TEUs and bakasi will also handle 10 million TEUs Lamu is a massive project and I am sorry to say kazi it seems extremely feasible for people on Malawi, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi and some parts of Ethiopia to start using lamu port for their imports |
| Re: Kenya Is Ahead of Nigeria In All Aspect (Facts Don't Lie) by Mkenya2019: 1:09pm On Oct 21, 2019 |
Yes there have to be massive investment to bridge the infrastructure deficit in Africa. Africa Dev Bank is doing a good job. But what especially need to happen is for intra-africa trade to improve. Africa Free Trade needs to happen. Nigeria need to stop blockade their borders and deal with the smugglers. As for KaziKazi he is just as usual - envious - otherwise their Dar Port is targetting countries that are further away than LAMU - Ethiopia. From Dar to Kigali in Rwanda or Bujumbura in Burundi or Lusaka Zambia or Lilongwe in Malawi or Kampala...you're talking minimum of 1,500kms - to 2,000kms (Zambia) - and probably further for DRC Congo. Now LAMU to Ethiopia is just about 1,000kms. How cannot not be feasible? First we will grow the transshipment business, then get oil tankers to Lamu and eventually get Ethiopia & South Sudan using the port. We need massive infrastructure investment in Africa - railway, highways and airlines - should be cross cutting countries - to boost intra-africa trade and travel - and improve the economy - rather than trying to trade with countries 10,000 kms away. Kazikazi:Why do the northern Tanzanians use Mombasa port? Dont they have ports? The answer to that question should answer why southern Ethiopians will use Lamu port. Just two days ago it was reported that 9 cargo vessels were in the high seas off your coast due to clogging at the relatively inefficient Dar es salaam port, some of the ships had reportedly been waiting for weeks (wont tell who leaked this infor but we like to watch whether you are waking your slow lazy bums down there). Im sure you part with painful demurrage fees per annum. On the same day a massive cargo ship had been cleared in record time at Mombasa port (stevedoring in less than 48 hrs!!). Thats one hell of an efficiency. An average of 190 gross moves per hour, top global ports do 200 gross moves per hour. Since last yr (2018) Mombasa port is now doing 48 hours turnaround time for bigger vessels on a consistent basis which has seen a rise in transshipment demand by 131.9 %. Part of this transshipment will be rerouted to Lamu Port which you deride so much, largely because Bagamoyo Port has never seen the light of day. And though I understand your deficiencies upstairs, dont you think sometimes its wise to do some comparative analysis and reflection. Like in the case of port business, dont you think its too unwise for a Tanzanian to purport to advise a Kenyan on the same given that your Biggest port which is in your largest city processes only about 60 % of Kenya's biggest port which is in Kenya's second biggest city? Who between the two would know better? |

TayserMahri:You are one of the journalists in that Kenyan paper called The east African. I saw how you mixed up stuff to suit your interests in that article about Dar port on issues concerning importation of cars. In the article, you never wrote the massive increase on car imports on 2018! You only mentioned the datas of years were there was a decline due to corruption. Kenyans amazes me. Why couldn't you publish everything? Why chose only the negative part but not the positives? I am telling you, that article was from hell. If the citizen wrote that stupid thing,we could have banned it.You couldn't write about improvements on Dar port for the past year? You couldn't write about the massive expansion of Dar port currently? |
