General Yakubu Gowon wants Nigerian youths to gain from his experience. The former military head of state seems ready to open up on some issues he witnessed and was part of in the past. The retired military general will be addressing Nigerian youths sometime in February 2020. Nigeria's former military head of state, General Yakubu Gowon, has promised to give insights into some of the activities that led to the Nigeria civil war. Gowon made the pledge while receiving an award from a coalition of civil society youth groups. The groups had awarded Gowon the honour as the Global Peace Initiatives lifetime patron. The groups also asked the former military president to take out time for his busy schedule to address the issues that prompted the war under a programme to be called: 'A Day with Gowon.' Speaking on behalf of the groups, the executive director Global Peace Initiatives Nigeria, Ambassador Badamasi Sadiq Ibrahim informed General Gowon that the younger generation would love to hear from him. He also stated that it would be an honour for the youths to hear what prompted Gowon's genuine commitment to a peaceful and united Nigeria, stressing that it is a legacy worthy of emulation especially to young Nigerians. Reacting to the request, Gowon promised to be available in February 2020 for the event due to his other engagements before then.

No matter the perspective of the revered General on the 1966 coup, it would still remain his perspective. And a cross-section of Nigerians may take it with a pinch of salt.

I have read different versions of what led to Nigeria civil war. And from all what I read ibo caused Nigeria civil war. Aguiyi ironsi was the brain behind Nigeria civil war. Ojukwu only helped to escalate it.

What does Gowon want to say again. Murtala and co planned a revenge coup. Ironsi was murdered, Ogundipe, the second most senior officer in the Army was brushed aside because of his tribe. Gowon a much junior officer was made a puppet Head of State, making the Army a political party of sorts and a mockery of itself

He went on to create states and destroy the regional structure and led to the failed country we have today. When the owners of Nigeria were ready they brushed him aside and took back their presidency

We all know the coup was used as an excuse to kill as many igbos as possible.

The truths of the Biafran War are in the public domain.
Intelligent people have no need of
Jack Gowon's confession
to come the right conclusions.
International sources in Britain and America have
well-documented facts about the war.
And all of them implicate Gowon
and his Northern brothers.
Any confession by Gowon
that fails to admit that Nigeria fought for crude oil,
while Biafra fought for survival

He should write a book detailing what truly happened from January 15, 1966 up to when he was removed by Murtala in 1975. His account of events is long overdue. It is a debt he must pay before exiting this world or else, haters and misguided students of history would continue to muddle up his roles.

It's the humiliation of defeat which the Ibos suffered that is making it emotional for them to cooperate with The Yorubas to fix NIGERIA. Buhari is now going Nuclear. They don't know how to face him. They keep bungling, calling all Yorubas Afonjas instead of cooperating with them to keep the Fulanis in check.

Biafra Civil War had been fought, won and lost. No Victor and no Vanquished. The SS, CS, SE and SW should now wholeheartedly appeal to Gowon, Obasanjo, Danjumo, Babangida and Abdulsalami to please stop Buhari from further acting the Arabs' Script in his hand, to stop the squandering of Nigerian Resources in Niger and Chad Republics on non productive Almajiris' consumption and cooperate with NASS to grant Full Autonomy of Police Resources and Elections Control to our 36 Constitutional States of the Federation. Buhari's Policy is fast alienating the South and building the North up with Industries, Agriculture and Military Hardware He is building Nuclear Site right now in the North. To blow up Nigeria Population in his own way, he is compressing Nigeria with Invaders from Niger and Chad Republics and receding the illegal immigrants to the Southern States of the Country. Buhari and the Legislature should Restructure Nigeria now, otherwise there will be no Yorubas, Igbos and other Tribes than the Fulanis in Nigeria in two or three years time.
