We’ve always known that Nigeria needs to do more to improve education, from the basic level to tertiary. It’s a general challenge. However, the case in the north is a peculiar one. One would wonder what the political leaders here have been doing with annual budgets all these years.

According to a media report on Thursday, some schools in Gombe state, with hundreds of pupils, offer classes under the trees. And where there are classrooms, it’s not a place an average Nigerian would want to learn at.
