Dreal1247:The smugglers knew they were engaging in illegal activities. They were smuggling in banned goods and they knew the risk. Do you warn thieves of your planned actions to nab them? Why do you now expect the FG to warn smugglers of its plan to deal with them? |

Their should channel there goods toward the port for proper clarification instead of looking for whom to pity them. Our land border is closed, not our port, lobatan . The border should be reopened till 2020.. |

Government should be more logical and put into consideration the plight of the affected persons by the border closure. A prior notice shld have been given before the closure and i believe its what every sane government wld have done to avoid been tagged an enemy of the masses as a result of the pain , suffering and hardship their preposterous action inflicted on the good citizens . Dreal1247:...I can bet it,that even if the government, gives a notice of 2wks prior the border closure, trust an average Nigerian, they will say it's too small , that why not give a notice of 1-2yrs |

Perkins1:And how long does it take to clear goods at the ports? Four months, five months? I work for a construction company, many of materials we ordered for have been trapped at the Lagos port for more than four months. If the ports have always been reliable, idea of using neighboring ports and thus smuggling wouldn't have arose. The country is in terrible shape because our illiterate leaders can't even analyze the root cause of problems and hence be able to proffer remedy. |

This only means those goods are substandard and cannot be sold in their country as Nigeria is their dumping ground else they woul have made a uturn since and taken it for sales in their country or other neighbouring countries with open border |

PassingShot:Not every goods that pass through the boarder are smuggled goods. The guy is right, they would have given the real land importers/exporters heads up before taking that action. Imagine getting your goods to the borders one day and you are told that the borders are closed, it's heartbreaking. Hope you know that even as the borders are closed, smugglers are still finding ways to bring in goods to the country? |

Dreal1247:Only a country like Nigeria do useless things happen. The sudden closure has brought severe sufferings to traders and the masses. Insensitivity of the government and lack of foresight are the order of the day in Nigeria. |

PassingShot:You are quite on point. The government had announced that no more importation of rice through the land borders, so if you have taken loans to still indulge in it, you only have yourself to blame!!The ban on rice import [b][b/]through the land borders was announced over 2 years ago so what notice are you giving to the smugglers again. These rice importers can buy Nigerian rice in paddy form and get it processed in the process making a lot of money, but no you went the illegal route!!! Check out most of the products trapped most of them are on the ban list or forex ban list!!! I hope Nigeria as a whole will learn to look inwards and invest in Nigeria. |

Dreal1247:Two months would be have been too much, we're talking about import, not production. I pity them but it is what it is. We couldn't give terrorists additional two months to cross into Nigeria territory and allow guns smugglers additional two months to scale up their nefarious activities |

A concerned trader, who identified himself simply as Shehu told Saturday Telegraph that the huge debts incurred by these traders would have a spiral effect on the economy as most of the goods may lose the economic value. He added that, “should we continue to hurt ourselves in the name of border closure when the economy is in tatters? What is the market value of the policy? To me, this is not addressing the real issue the way it should be.”Long overdue. Anyone who has financial capacity should dump importation for production and manufacturing, just like Dangote |

From the names of the grieving importers, I didn't see any Igbo name. So it means Igbos are not actually the economic saboteurs |
