Having a major recommend industrial park is more practical than hosting development across major districts. there must be district known for agriculture practice and as well as industrial hub park ( where manufacturing of goods will be deployed).

one district one factory is a good initiative if goverment doesn't fall ball on the initiative and policy.

Ghana has is industrial park as well. it is known as ""dawa industrial park"" and many been developed. two or three as well.

okay maybe in major towns - but as long as one district one factory - is private sector driven - no problem. But what we need are huge industrial parks in major towns - at least for import substitutions - a lot of chinese trinkets that we import - can be manufactured here in Africa.

We need to copy german model - train millions of kids in vocational skills - then open industries - otherwise we will have Nigeria kind of problem where population is a curse not a blessing.

Yes if they can resolve their ethnic strife - they can go places. You can imagine they are yet to open so many sectors for private investments - like banking/finance/insurance/telcoms - it's a mini-china. Once they liberalize the economy - they will be able to double their gdp -

Hackman Owusu-Agyeman – Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board
The Board Chairman of the COCOBOD, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman says the government is planning to process 50 per cent of the cocoa that is produced in the country.

He also said government was playing its part to achieve the set target of one million-tonne cocoa production for the 2018/2019 crop season.

Ghana is the second largest producer of cocoa in the world after Ivory Coast.

He said these when Mr. Harold Poelma, the President of Cargill Cocoa & Chocolate led a delegation to pay courtesy calls on the Chairman of COCOBOD and the Minister of Food and Agriculture as part of activities marking ten years of Cargill in Ghana.

A statement issued by Cargill and copied to the Ghana News Agency said the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, congratulated Cargill on its anniversary and the immense job it has been doing to improve the sector with global best practices.

He said government was fully committed to alleviating socio-economic challenges in the cocoa sector and pledged his Ministry’s unflinching support for Cargill.

Mr. Poelma thanked the Minister for his drive and vision towards a sustainable cocoa sector and Cargill’s contribution in that regard.

He said Cargill was committed to continue investments in the sector, and that, Cargill is open to dialogue with the government to improve the cocoa sector.

The Cargill delegation also visited the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) and was welcomed by Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, the Chairman of COCOBOD, who was full of praise for Cargill’s business model acknowledged Cargill’s contributions and positive impacts on the cocoa sector over the last ten years.

Mr Owusu-Agyemang congratulated Cargill on a decade of innovation; touching on the installation of the fully-automated digital solar system at the Tema plant and called for cooperation towards a sustainable environment.

He said government was playing its part to achieve the set target of one million-tonne cocoa production for the 2018/2019 crop season and 50 per cent of cocoa to be processed in Ghana.

In response, Mr. Pieter Reichert, the Managing Director for Cargill’s cocoa and chocolate business in Ghana, expressed Cargill’s readiness for further collaborations and Cargill’s role in ensuring environmental sustainability.

He also outlined the outcome of Cargill’s traceability-focused fully e-money enabled Licensed Buying Company; Cargill Kokoo Sourcing Company Limited.

“Since its establishment, 13,000 cocoa farmers have benefitted from a total of GH¢6 million in premium payments and currently covers 11 districts,’’ he said.

He also drew the Chairman’s attention to the unfairness in the light crop industry and encouraged the COCOBOD to take steps in addressing it.

A tenth-anniversary commemorative dinner was also held; where the executives of Cargill engaged with sector stakeholders on ways to reinvigorate Ghana’s cocoa sector.

It is expected that these engagements will help Cargill continue to bolster farmer confidence in the cocoa sector.

Cargill was actively working with farmers to change and improve practices to curb deforestation and also support activities to promote sustainable farming practices and improve the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and their communities.

The statement said the delegation also toured some communities where the Cargill Kokoo Sourcing Company Limited operates, including the Baniekrom Buying Plant, Akrobokrom and Nyinahin communities in the Ashanti Region on.

“For the farmers, the visit signified Cargill’s commitment to keeping the farmer at the heart of its business.

They were also grateful for the visit and expressed their satisfaction with Cargill’s innovative payment system, weighing system and savings scheme”

It said Cargill had been buying cocoa from Ghana for over 40 years and in 2008 opened its state-of-the-art cocoa processing facility in Tema.

Today the company has over 600 permanent and contracted employees processing cocoa products to serve food and confectionary customers locally and around the world.

I don't agree with you but I think it is better if the Industries are spread out. Let me give you a good example if you take volta area it is well known for rice so they're right Industries rice processing can be in Volta. It to take cocoa it is in the Southern part of Ghana and that is where a lot of chocolate Industries can be located. If you take soya beans it is in the central and northern part of Ghana that's where a lot of cooking oil Industries can be situated. It is not good putting all your industry in one place because the transport from the farms or from the raw materials to the city or where the Industries are will be too costly it is better to put the Industries as close to the raw materials as possible to cut down on transport

Yes - of course both[b] raw materials and market are two main consideration[/b] - if something is heavy & perishable - then process at sources - otherwise it may be cheaper to process near the market(cities) - but look at this - there is so much one rice mill can do in a district - they are not SCALABE. Within an industrial park - say you food processing park - where all raw rice or beans or maize will brought for processing - - folks selling packaging materials will set up there - all labour will be there --gov can focus on providing reliable & cheap power there --- you start reaping ECONOMIES OF SCALE.

Distributing factories to every district is more political than economical.

Look like a private industrial park that just about started, This is not what I am talking about. I mean we need Gov funded Industrial parks - because gov has the muscle to provide infrastructure and incentives to attract manufactures.

The 1D1F may see 1D1F for decades....chance of scaling this is remote.

Yes about time - because the industry can easily double it's earning - and because the money will go to individual farms - that will really dent poverty in rural places - rather than hot oil money.

I don't think one district one factory is going anywhere - Kenya have had such similar hair-brained ideas - Economic Stimulus - and they have failed.

What works is Ethiopia kind of industrial parks.

It should be one industrial park one district. Gov buys or provide land that can house several industries - provide horizontal infrastructures - roads, water, housing and sewage - and then invite foreign and local investors to set up factories.

Nigeria GDP is overcooked. Their non-existent agriculture and the rest of sector data are inflated. Their manufacturing is also non-existent. Look at kenya - manufacturing contribute to 20% of taxes - and makes up 9-10% of GDP - so if Nigeria has such a manufacturing - oil will not be accounting for 90-95% of gov revenues.

I know what you are looking for but sorry to disappoint you I don't sell them and just to clear your curiosity I know ghana more than you will ever know. Me and Vaxx himself knows Nigeria more than you will ever know unless you have probably lived or been to more than 23 States of the country. So pipe down in whatever futile attempt you are aiming at. Ghana is far liveable than Nigeria.
