this look like goiter.

iodine deficiency in the body is the major cause of goiter.

it occurs when the thyroid glands in the neck inflames majorly due to iodine deficiency

the treatment i know of is radioactive iodine treatment and biopsy.

addition of iodize salt in your diet will help in treating it.

i dont think its life threatening but its very important that you go see an experienced doctor at any specialist hospital.

You should see an endocrinologist in any teaching hospital to tell you the test to do and possibly the best treatment to take....treatment depends on what your results say... If the lump is big then you should consider surgery..
