Re: Sagay Tells Buhari To Seek Senate’s Confirmation For Magu Again by freeze001(f):
I believe there should be a limit to holding an appointment in acting capacity, say not more than six months. Within that time all investigations should have been concluded and confirmation, where required, is secured from the Senate. In fact, any serious-minded appointing authority should have identified and discreetly screened/investigated likely appointees within the last six months of the substantive office holder so as that tenure ends, there are no unnecessary lapses or tenure extensions.

It should not be that a person like Magu who has been acting Chairman of the EFCC for almost 5 years, if confirmed now, would be a eligible for a statutory tenure which is also renewable by another tenure. It should not also be that a person is kept acting in perpetuity, not knowing his fate. It should not also be that the Executive will still have its way despite non confirmation by the majority of the Senate who represent the people. Where is the power of checks and balances then?

So many things wrong with the Constitution and statute books of this country, breeding and enabling impunity. Like someone said, there is no president as irresponsible as a Nigerian president because he has too much powers!

Sagay is a disappointment. Did he see what happened in Kogi. Did he witness how the Buhari government and the rubber stamp Senate gifted Yahaya Bello N10bn of our common wealth on the eve of the gubernatorial election in Kogi. And he has the audacity to say it is now more difficult to steal public fund? No, Mr Sagay, stealing is now institutionalized such that rigging money is given official state approval.
I spit on you SirGAY, I spit on your Professorship, I spit on your SAN title. You are a shame
If your head is not leaking you would have understand that the process of approval and disbursement is not that short to feel that Bello will immediately have access to the money for the past election, however the approval of the fund to be released definitely boost morale of his key supports and that is exactly their target.

The chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, yesterday urged President Muhammadu Buhari to again approach the Senate to confirm Ibrahim Magu as substantive chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. Sagay made the call in Abuja when he led other members of PACAC on a visit to the acting chairman of the EFCC, Magu. He said since Magu took over the leadership of the commission in 2015, he had demonstrated firmness and courage in the fight against corruption.

He said: “The EFCC (under Magu) is a body that has surpassed every other organization, past and present, in the fight against corruption. When something is good, when you see merit, dedication, courage…I think it’s (not fair) to say you are looking for something else.” “In our view, the acting chairman deserves everything, including being given a substantive appointment. Magu is an uncompromising person as far as corruption is concerned. We, PACAC, are solidly behind Magu and the EFCC”. He also said it was now difficult to steal public funds due to the efficacy of the anti-corruption war of the current administration.

To what effect exactly? He hasn’t been confirmed, yet he has been in that position for years now. This only proves the legislative arm toothless before the executive, while the executive acts with impunity.

Tinubu was petitioned to the EFCC by Deji Adeyanju. What is the outcome of that petition? Your guess is as good as mine

Magu should vacate the seat immediately and give another person a chance. What were his achievements the last 4 years of acting or is he the only competent man that can paddle the canoe of EFCC.
His predecessors have not spent more than 4 years but he wants to perpetuate himself in power.
Buhari should do the needful by appointing another person without any further delay
