Increment in tax with no result of democracy....low quality health system, bad roads spoiling our cars, insecurity in some part of d country, minimum wage should be #90000 per month, low quality of education.
In advance countries where taxes are paid the government really invest into citizens...dey have sit down and do a thorough master plan of the country....
Thanks

Unemployment is on the increase...
Inflation moving up as a result of border closure ....
With CBN ban on Treasury Bills by local individuals and coys....
PMB now increase Vat to 7.5%...
Seek to Increase company income tax ..... where is the employment going to come from....
Seek to Increase Personal Income tax ... you want to tax again the small salary that is not enough to survive.
Haba ....PMB

The Senate on Thursday passed the Finance Bill which seeks to amend seven Acts of the National Assembly relating to taxes payable in the country.

The bill specifically seeks an increment of the value-added tax from five per cent to 7.5 per cent.

It also seeks an increment in the Companies Income tax, Customs and excise, Petroleum Profit Tax, Stamp duties, personal income tax and Capital Income tax.

The Minority Leader, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Senators Ifeanyi Ubah, Gabriel Suswan and Abba Moro, however, raised objections to the bill.

They said the increment in taxes would further compound the sufferings and pains of Nigerians.

Nigerians are already missing Saraki.

APC supporters will still suffer it like others.

They are here to increase VAT with their useless and senseless excuses but they have money to buy vote and embezzle.

If you observe you'll find out that the guys in the green chamber are better than the Dunderheads in the red chamber. These red chamber rubber stamped Senators don't care about the Nigerian hustling in the street. They'll never cut their bloated emoluments. It would have made sense if we can see what the tax is used for. Rubbish.

Tax rates in Canada are higher than that of Nigeria....if you must know.

Plus Canadians take time to hold their governemnts accountable.

Also, Canada is not dependent solely on oil. They are dependent on their industrial output to make money. That's why their power and water supply works. Nigeria...we are dependent on oil, which does not need light 24//7 to be brought out of the soil.

Instead of increasing taxes like personal income tax, they should look at ways of improving on its self-assessment, payment, certification and management process.

If you make it seamless, more people would be willing to pay. Increasing it would not increase the number of tax payers... It will only increase the total amount collected at the expense of the few that still pay tax.

As for me, here are some facts.

We are not earning enough from oil or from agriculture.

So, either taxes go up or more loans.

And for those chanting accountability...and you are right, the government is not too good on the accountability issue.....that is why we are a democracy. You have the power to demand for better governance.
The taxes will go up, the loans too. And there is nothing Nigerians can do about it. Buhari is a god unto himself.

they have to be careful in increasing DIRECT TAXES; they have high correlation in creating disincentives!

1.Because we are relaint on oil, and the oil price is too low for us to maintain a good lifestyle. Even if Buahri was not in power, the same issue would still be there.

2.Democracy has given you the power to call your government to account. Not just at Aso Rock, but at all levels. Use it. (and no, I am no Buhari supporter either. Nor do I like PDP).

There is something I don't understand about this country. Personal Income Tax and VAT will be increased at the same time at the expenses of the masses? We asked for it shaaa. What a next level. I will pay more Tax, spend more when I buy stuff but no Electricity, no good roads, no good education.... Is alright before they say na hate speech

Buhari is busy levying taxes everywhere without any iota of accountability, from stamp duty to pos taxes, credit and debit taxes, also vat increase. Under this APC regime Nigeria may become the most taxed citizens of the world yet nothing to show for it. Upon all this we are still borrowing from every dick, tom and harry. If you talk DSS will pay you a surprise visit,
Except you reside in a rural area and only came to nearby town for a visit, otherwise, there could not be a more plausible explanation for your allegation of impropriety.

What better way can a leader demonstrate accountability than instituting probity and executing 'common good' projects?

Are you expecting that he 'shares the money' as usual?

I read the International oil companies divestment thread.

Nobody mentioned job loses.

If those oil companies leave as stated, more than 3,000 jobs will be lost in the oil sector.

Infrastructure and human capital development as well as social investments cost a lot of money. Our current budget of $30b is just too meager for a nation of 200 million people. South Africa with it 50 million people budgets $100b annually. Egypt of 80 million people has an annual budget of $120b, our debt to revenue ratio is miserable. We need to start revving up our revenue by raising and widening our tax nets as well as cut every wasteful public expenditures, otherwise, developments in all facets will continue only at snail pace.

The real reason international companies are running as fast as their legs can carry them. They have seen the coming dictatorship.

We should be worried because their presence in the country checkmates some excesses of the govt knowing they have the muscle to slug it out at the international level. cry cry

Education up to secondary level is free. Healthcare is also free. No one will complain if tax monies are used to fund basic social programs such as education and healthcare.
