NO! The system is not based on feelings and sentiments.
Its very straight forward. If you plead guilty, an officer of the court will visit you for what is called a PSI (pre sentencing investigation) report that will be presented to the judge before your sentencing. This PSi will basically tell the judge what kind of time he can imposed on the accused based on the federal sentencing guidelines.
Anyone that pleads guilty and accept responsibility for their actions will get less time than those that went to trial. This is done to encourage people to plead guilty because if everyone should decide to go trial, the system will collapse. People get arrested everyday by the Feds for one crime or the other.
It's about 3pm on the east coast right now. There are people that will be arrested before 6am tomorrow morning and they have no clue right now. They are at home chilling right now not knowing that the feds will be banging on their doors bu 5am tomorrow morning. Once they come for you, you are done for.

Once again, this is my own DIRECT OBSERVATION. Maybe it is lawyers working their magic but I’ve noticed that judges are usually lenient on people who go through trial and quite harsh on people who outrightly plead guilty as charged.

Your "direct observation" is not a true reflection of reality in federal cases. Anywho knows anything about the federal court system will tell you that those that plead guilty almost always get less time than those that goes to trial. This is basic ABC of the court system.

Please sample opinions on Twitter, Facebook groups, Instagram, go on instablog page precisely to see how both tribes pick on eachother everytime.

The earlier we all tell eachother the truth and stop trying to be politically correct the better. This constant feeling of ego on both tribes already percolated into both old and young generation and I’m scared the status quo might remain for a long time.

The problem should be tackled as a whole, Nairaland is just showing the symptoms of the actual ailment which to me predated more than five decades.

You may be confusing plea bargain with pleading guilty without any sort of deal whatsoever. In a death penalty state, if you plead guilty to murder you’ll get death penalty guaranteed, while if u go through trial u could get life imprisonment, after adjourning the case forever.

For once she appears to make sense with her post. Questions we failed to ask at the onset regards Allen's source of wealth is now being asked by US. He better go answer the questions now. You're right bro! The hate speech is everywhere. But looking at sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, you notice that the face features reduces the level of hate being peddled there. A lot of the social media sites are doing a lot to curtail the hate in their domain, to the extent that both Twitter and Facebook usually give hate merchants out for prosecution to respective agencies. Although, these sites are far from perfect, but people are mindful of their utterances because of the innovations been put in place.
Now if you compare these global social media sites to our local ones you'll find a large amount of difference. A lot of bloggers in this country don't give a damn about what goes on in their blogs and sites. They don't regulate their sites and don't even go as far as helping to curtail the hate been spewed there. All the owners of these sites are after is traffic, ads, money and all sort if greedy inducements.
I've followed all the famous Nigerian blogs and sites, from Naijaloaded, Notjustok, Linda Ikeji, Omojuwa, Nairaland, Instablog9ja and just name them. They all have similar trademark, which is greed.
This is why I'm lenient towards the Hate Speech and Anti-Social Media bill in the senate. Nigeria is headed for another Rwanda if nothing is done about this nonsense. If such bill is passed, people will begin to choose their utterances wisely.
This is not to say that I support death penalty, rather a long term imprisonment should be served to offenders while death penalty should be passed as laws for anything corruption related.
