I like a statement the Federal Government made. We hired individuals, not unions. |

lonelydora:Its a pity. This will completely bring ASUU under the control/mercy of the govt. If ASUU call for strike, govt will just withhold salaries and strike go die. This will make the lecturers feel defeated because they would have nothing yo use to negotiate against govt. I just hope the little quality we have in our universities will not be totally lost. Something in me dosent seem to agree with this ippis for lecturers. In normal climes it shouldn't be like that but Naija is not normal and these lecturers can be cunning. Well we are in a totalitarian democracy now so anything goes. |

Awon Randy and criminal lecturers everywhere, I stand with Federal Government on IPPIS, How will their be employment in the country when one lecturer is working in 5 institution together and be collecting salaries all together? IPPIS is here to stay. I stand by the Federal Government idea. Let's create room for employment for unemployed people in the country. Greedy lectures everywhere |

jaxxy:The pessimism on this issue is alarming. The sanitization of the FG's public finance should be welcomed by all; this government has about 3 years to the end of it's life but the IPPIS and it's benefits would live on forever. How can universities receive funding from government but refuse regulatory and administrative directives. Like government said, Union did not employ anyone government did. So whoever does not like his salary should listen to Union and not his or her employee |

teepain:When u understand the role of the union then u will understand their point of view. The union protects and fights for the lecturers not the Fg. Who can become a slaver driver overnite. |

jaxxy:Ideally, the union ought to fight and protect the rights of the lecturers but theunion has derailed from those aims and objectives. These days, the union fights to promote pecuniary interests and to cover fraudulent practices of members. How can any sane ASUU fight against the appointment of external auditor of the accounts of the university by the government claiming that they are autonomous and only the council can appoint auditors. There are friends that I know who have left the shores of this country for 10 years (some for postdoc and other reasons) and above and they still get their salaries as lecturers of these universities. Mind you, some of them have fully relocated and just come around from time to time to maintain some form of presence. |

teepain:Ok I can understand the corruption aspects and I think it’s important to tackle that and avoid wastage bt the unions core values must be preserved and protected. |

jaxxy:I just couldn't understand why many people in Nigeria do not use their heads o! Imagine, only this regime; increase in tax and introduction of many more taxes, Introduction of hate speech act, Introduction of Social Media "gag" act. etc, and nobody is talking and now education is about to be caged and ASUU, as usual is trying to raise an objection but some fools are hailing this government, SMH! |

teepain:You have your points and I totally agree with you. But like I said earlier a lot of things are wrong with Naija and trying to fix one side without looking at things holistically will only make our situations more complicated. Yes the unions ought to fight for the lecturers and may have deviated. The same can be said about the govt, no? How many times have the govt renaged on their agreements with ASUU? is that not also something we should consider in all this. With this now govt will totally be in control and ASUU will not be able yo fight for anything again and I have said that this forceful show of power that the govt is using will only make university education suffer even more. How much is the budget for education in Nigeria. A country where the amount allocated to NASS is 3times bigger than education and health combined. Let's wait and see. |

Other Federal Government agencies joined IPPIS and they still go on strike and fight for their rights. IPPIS does not stop ASUU from agitating for their rights. IPPIS is good for the country and will help to open up space for employment. codedguy1: |

10thangel:Agreed it would curb lecturers from receiving salaries from more than one place which is a good thing. And they will say how much they have saved in implementing it but again we will not see what the saved money would be used for. Anyways, let's wait and see how it goes. |

If there's something I'm certain of, it is that, there's no policy that unites Nigerian politicians is truly meant to favour the masses. I fear anything that unites politicians, and IPPIS is one. One should wonder, why are all politicians, including Governors that do not want to pay minimum wage are supporting IPPIS? |

Where jobs dey? Make lecturers ask most of the former KSU lecturers that did not comply with government directive. Bubu may have consulted Bello on this. A word is enof |
