Spoken Word Lagos is an exhibition of some of Lagos’ finest creative. A mini festival of poetry, music and conversations; SWL is an experience for the neutrals and a platform of expression for poets, artistes, and speakers across the city of Lagos.

This gathering is brought to you by Mbari Uno and Griot in celebration of our uniqueness of art and ideas. It is a promotion of the African narrative through the voices of her people.

Ndukwe Onuoha
Ndukwe Onuoha fuses a unique conversational delivery with traditional instrumentation to deliver poetry that is accessible, relatable and at once punchy. An incurable ad man, Ndukwe is an award-winning copywriter and Creative Director of 7even Interactive, a fast-rising advertising agency in Lagos, Nigeria

Bunmi Africa
Bunmi Africa is a Writer and Spoken Word Artist who uses performance poetry as her soap box.
Her love for blending music with poetry led her to contribute to two EPs, with tracks like “Ariwo Èkó” off the Ariwo Èkó EP and “I’m Queen” off the Project Femme; Alte’cation EP featuring other female artists.

She currently hosts the poetry radio show “Lagos Poetry Sessions” on City 105.1FM. Some of her Major Influences are Saul Williams and Gill Scott-Heron Her greatest passion is creating and channeling her imaginations into relatable art.

How do they screen the people who come for the show, bouncers? Is spoken word poetry enjoyed only by the level-headed or riff-raffs change demeanour when indulging in the craft?
