You are partly true.Hydo in most cases is cheaper than gas.
But gas is more reliable than hydro.
Gas is more cheaper than nuclear or diesel or wind power
Gas is more cleaner than nuclear,coal or dieasel.

So,all in all,gas is very suitable to run factories because of reliability and of course it is somehow cheaper
