When Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was asked about the Balon Do'r, he said something like-- "The best player last year was Virgil, so he should win it. However if you're giving it to the best footballer in the world, give it to Lionel."

I've never been a Barça fan and never will be. But I can say with all frankness, Lionel Messi has no equal since men started kicking round leather. He's the best player ever. And I don't think anybody will ever reach his individual brilliance.

But your post reeks of bias. Is an individual award for an individual performance. VVD was good last season, no doubt. Messi was good last season as well, but Messi did more individually. To be in the Midfield and Attack in football is not easy, u're not only judged by good play, u're judged by goals and assists too, that's why a forward, Am CM or H/DM cost more than a Defender and a Goalkeeper.

Bossed Messi? Now u're editing the two legged matches, Messi dealt with him in the first leg, he returned the favor in the 2nd leg. U fail to get my argument, individual performance. VVD was among the Liverpool team that did good last season, are u pushing aside the brilliance of Salah and Mane? Those two was on fire. Liverpool didn't win UCL on PK, goals were scored. VVD didn't make Liverpool great last season, he was among the very exceptional players. Oga u fail to mention Wijnaldum, that guy was in fire too, just like VVD. VVD has never carried Liverpool solo, just like Messi and Ronaldo did and one is still doing lol
