Gombe State Delegation visits Anambra; embarks on Study Tour of ASHIA.

By Chidiebele Cy Obika.

A six man delegation from the Gombe State Government yesterday, December 20, 2019 arrived Awka, the Anambra State capital for a study tour of the best performing Health Insurance scheme in Nigeria - the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency(ASHIA).

Speaking after a five-hour intensive briefing of the visitors at the state headquarters of the Agency in Awka, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, the Executive Secretary of ASHIA and SPAD on Health to Gov. Obiano, said; ' our brothers from Gombe state are in the State on the recommendation of National Health Insurance Scheme(NHIS) to embark on a study tour of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency'.

' They are here to understudy the mordus operandi of the scheme; successes and challenges, so that it would aid them in establishing Gombe State Health Insurance Agency. They have special focus on our achievements in the informal sector'.

Continuing, Dr. Onyemaechi noted that the team and members of the agency had a very interactive session and expressed his happiness that the members were quick to understand the 'adoption model', strategies they adopted in capturing the people of the informal sector, ways of aggregating funds and so many others. The ES/SPAD of ASHIA. admitted that the session allowed them to know more on areas they need to improve and therefore thanked Gov. Willie Obiano for his political WILL in ensuring the full implementation of the scheme and his regular payment of consolidated revenue and capitation rates.

On his part, the leader of the delegation and Executive Secretary of Gombe State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Abdulrahaman Shuaibu noted that they were in the state to basically understudy the workings of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency so that they can replicate same in their state.

' Already, we have bills before the Gombe State House of Assembly and we are hoping they will be passed into law soon. So, we are here to arm ourselves with information on how to set up our own'.

' In Gombe State, we are focusing more on the informal sector because they are the majority and we've heard a lot of success stories about Anambra state and the informal sector'.

' The session was very engaging. We've learnt a lot of lessons which I believe if applied, the Gombe State Health Insurance Scheme will succeed', Dr. Shuaibu concluded.

The delegation later visited some ASHIA accredited hospitals in Awka where they interacted with the scheme's beneficiaries.

mktinsight:
Library is for many things not just cursory research on one's phone. Libraries is a symbol of civilisation. The great library of Alexandria was one of the great libraries of Ancient Egypt. The British Library is the largest library in the world. The American public library system provides accessibility to all rich and poor. Indeed more than half of young adults and seniors living in poverty in the United States used public libraries to access the Internet...to “find work, apply to college, secure government benefits, and learn about critical medical treatments”. The NYPL also shares its books to all New York public schools saving them on book purchase expenses. (see: https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidvinjamuri/2013/01/16/why-public-libraries-matter-and-how-they-can-do-more/#1b8ebcb469be)

A library is a foundation of knowledge and a theatre for learning. They are good for children to go to after school to do their homework for example. It is good to use as a place to prepare for exams. They are places good for meetings, book readings or visits of literary folks like Chimamanda Adichie. They have many uses and are not going anywhere yet.

I hope the State government takes its libraries very seriously and provides adequate direction. The Kenneth Dike Library was a good initative of the Peter Obi administration but it requires better furnishing and they need to make the threadbare grounds useful. I suggested that they build a small Arts/Culture gallery in the ground and plant some trees in other parts and put benches and concrete tables. Sometimes one wants to read outside in fresh air or maybe just go take a look at artwork or crafts display. Arts is inspirational and is the essence of life. The Igbos are famous for the Igbo-Ukwu bronzes to the sculptural master Ben Enwonwu to Chinua Achebe and Chimamanda Adichie.

Look at the current dilapidated state of Onitsha Library (Can we not do better?):
Actually the Onitsha Library can be modernized & expanded by putting up a glass wall to replace those railing bars and then putting up windows at strategic intervals on the glass wall. In that way you can have enough light and air entering the library, while you increase space where people can sit and study. Every great doctor in the USA i know from Onitsha read for their JAMB and WAEC in that library. I am sure Peter Obi and Obiano could have used that library when they lived in Onitsha as teenagers. We need to give the same facilities to the new generation.

Also, now that Onitsha has expanded beyond Woliwo, Library buildings should be built in Awada and Nkpo/Ogidi axis. This will help children living in those areas to access library services.

My ONLY regret about Nigeria is that we hate to invest in what matters in creating a good society. It would not cost up to N100 million to budget and build libraries in high population density areas, but we would rather spend the N100 million buying cars for road safety officials and the Nigeria navy. Even when the FG caters for these organizations

Our Airport is taking forever to start seeing Cementary works as only bulldozer jobs only...they should increase their pace...kudos to their efforts.

You will not hear any word from Orient petroleum as they are stuck on boundary disputes and delineation of borders. They Will be mining oil but you will not hear a word, until it is resolved. However any company could have continued the oil mining mindless of boundary issues until is resolved and they will pay to the owner but since the company is owned by an indigen of Anambra together with the expenses of ANSG... That place is locked till. Further Notice...this why I will not forgive Peter Obi and GEJ

Leave Peter Obi out of the mess.

Goidluck Jonathan is a typical Ijaw man. His only concern is his Niger delta and how to curry favours just to win elections.

If he can commission Niger bridge 2 times, neglecting this one is nothing to him.

One thing I have come to understand, their is a reason everybody fears the Igbo man, including the whites.

I know, had an Igbo man been in GEJ position, he would have done a second term.

Building refinery without even thinking of how to channel crude to the refinery.

Sometimes you need to think and not just comment because you think your data is enough.

Let them build the damn refinery.

They know the locatiion of the crude wen they initially started, that crude location is not going to change.

It should not take 100 years to build and complete a refinery.

How many years do we have to live, forever?

It was a democratic government, no military insight and GEJ could not hold on to power.

If ever, i find myself in that position, it will take fighter jets and nuclear bomb to unseat me.

That is, if i dont already have dem, which would be unlikely.

I am done with you.

If you have the money go and build it.

As for now those who have the money are putting it on viability.

As I was saying before I was derailed.

Anambra is clearing land for the last two years for Cargo city becos of crude found in Anambra state.

Is it not wise to first complete the refinery?

If u suspend refinery saying becos their is border dispute and the oil is no longer guaranteed.

Then , y build the Cargo airport city with fueling depot for aviation fuel.

Does dat make sense to u?

The refinery should be completed and functional first.

There is money to be made from it.

We still have oil in Imo and Abia and pipeline for transport.
