Parliament Building. It is open to the general public on certain days, unlike in Nigeria. And some members of the public choose to have picnics there on days when it is opened.

Namibians are simple and friendly people and not materialistic. As the Nigerian population grows in the country I hope they respect the culture and way of life of the Namibians.

We always have way of making our hosts countries hate us and see us as fraudsters and drug dealers. And claim the hate stems from jealously from our success. The hate comes from not respecting the way of life and culture of your hosts-when in Rome act as the Romans do.

Windhoek is still a developing city and they do have slums. Not everyone got caught up in the prosperity and it is also an expensive city to live. The poor with little education and chance of getting good paying jobs find it hard to afford the accommodation in the more developed parts of the city and are only able to afford to live in the slums in the outskirts.

However, the good outweighs the bad. The poor will always exist and setup illegal structures to put a roof over their head.
I hope long-term the government will try to find a way to carry them along.
I think it would be a great idea to juxtapose the wealth with the scum so we are reminded of balance and the need for it.

Every city has a slum/ghetto neighbourhood even New York,Los Angeles and London.

I do agree there needs to be a balance, but it not a true reflection of Windhoek as city as the slums population make up only 34% of the city.

Surely they must have the slummy side of life?
Every were has slums, even America. But were almost everywhere is unplanned, and chaotic that becomes the problem. I went to a street Market in Essex, UK 2 years ago, and with the same quality of commerce or even more than what we have back home, it wasn't a dreadful experience.

When I came back I visited computer village, Lagos market, and one of the markets in Ebute-metta, and I couldn't see one of our street market that was at least half as organized. Lagos market was terrible for me because there were no maps, no real parking spaces, and no way to know authentic people, only droves of people sandwiching each other and street urchins trailing you with calls to take you to the best shops.

Most of the times we ask questions like "don't they have homeless people" to give ourselves a sort of unfounded hope. I ask these questions too. But being to very few countries outside Nigeria have made me realize our comfort in mediocrity, and our high tolerance for little or no leadership.

Let put development of Nigerian into the hand of God, see with God all the years that locust and cankarworm have eaten Nigerian will regain and over take this nation in a bleep of eye
I hope this is a joke, because God didn't come down to develop South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, etc. These countries were once very poor, but they're the envy of the world now. Responsible leadership and patriotism.

It has become tiresome being a Nigerian.

Lagos is not the capital of Nigeria.

Lagos has poor planning for the most part, I think Abuja is the only city in Nigeria that actually had a plan and the administrations bother to follow up with the plan

Abuja is the only city in Nigeria with urban planning and had billions of dollars pumped into it since 1991 when it was declared the countries capital and it still can't match Windhoek in terms of development, planning or infrastructure development. The Nigerian factor will always come into play it comes to fantastical corruption.

One thing I have noticed among all these cities is the aesthetics appeal of the buildings, environment and landscaping. These are all lacking in Nigeria.

Our architects and builders are not creative at all. The same building designs without consideration for aesthetics.

Secondly, the chaotic, crude and overcrowded nature of Nigeria towns makes our environment unappealing for tourists.

We are too disorganised in this country with absolute indiscipline in all spheres of life.

It is because the only city with town planning in Nigeria is Abuja.

Namibia population is 2.5 million people and most of their cities have urban planning. Most of their cities are very similar to South Africa cities, they only got independence from South Africa in 1990.
However, they have done a good job in maintaining most of their cities.

I love Namibia and its capital, I was lucky enough to visit it last year and was amazed at the Etosha National Park and the Skeleton Coast. I hope to come back one day. cheesy

I guess you had no time to visit Swakopmund west of Windhoek. I heard it is even more beautiful and looks like any town in Germany.

Nigeria is unfortunately a failed state, with terrible and heartless leaders. I feels bad when you see other Africans nations advancing and we keep retrogressing.
Yeah but there's no picture shown here that beats Abuja or say Lagos Island. We just don't want to appreciate the little we have. However, I have to agree with you that we want more and shouldn't be compared with some of these small countries. But, Abuja to me, is much better than these pictures

Re: Beautiful City of Windhoek,Namibia by Focusmind: 5:35pm On Apr 03, 2020
The first thing you notice when you visit African cities is the relative neatness, order, discipline and calmness that pervades the land unlike the chaotic, crude, dirty and unhygienic ghettos we have in Nigeria.

God save this country honestly. We are too backward and our standards are terribly low.

Windhoek has a population of 325,000 people about the same as oil rich Warri in Delta state. However, is miles ahead in terms of development and infrastructure.

This is the difference between good governance and fantastical corruption.
Warri is at least twice More than that
