[s]Actually it is very relevant. Money doesnt grow on trees. Its not just about building its about whether you can manage and run it sustainably. Nigeria has a lot of white elephant projects. Ajaokuta was built for over 600 billion. Where is it today? Where is NITEL? Nigeria Airways? All dead.

Delta state could throw away 36 billion building Asaba Airport because it has a budget of over 300 billion a year. But what happens if oil prices collapse by 80% and cause that 300b budget to become 60b? In that scenario can Delta State government fund the airport when its runway needs to be maintained or upgraded or its traffic control systems upgraded? The Delta State government concessioned it off because Okowa knew that Uduaghan made a bad investment decision and he wanted no part of spending even more on it (he spent an additional 5 billion on the airport).

The major problem Asaba had with the idea of building an airport is that it is not Lagos. Lagos Airport has ALWAYS been the gateway to Nigeria from 1960 to present. Lagos has the natural advantage and It made sense to build an airport because to come to Nigeria from anywhere in the world you HAD to come through Lagos airport. But for Asaba, any international carrier would question 1) Is there enough traffic to fly there and 2) Are there no alternatives. Asaba/Onitsha fails on both ends. It doesnt have enough global importance that you could land even just a rudimentary 3 flights per day from around the world. How many foreigners do business in Asaba/Onitsha? How much trade happens between Asaba/Onitsha and the rest of the world? Then secondly, an international carrier sees Port Harcourt first and Enugu second as alternatives for international flights into the South-East.

So Asaba is a domestic airport and unfortunately, for Nigeria domestic aviation is a low margin business that requires high volume. Nigeria does not have high volume of local flights like the USA or Europe. 80% of airport traffic in the USA is domestic and the USA boasts of over 850 million passengers who fly every year. Nigeria has less than 8 million. The US is large and flying alleviates driving long distances. Nigeria is the size of Texas and you can get anywhere in a day driving and at most 1 hour flying. The US is rich and can afford conveniences. Nigeria is poor and aviation is for those with money.

This is why states should be careful building an airport. It is dumping billions into a project with low demand and low margins. Nigeria will not be rich in the next 30 years and by then the airport will either deteriorate and become obsolete like Lagos Airport and require extensive refurbishing and upgrade which will come at huge cost. Will the state government be able to support it then? [/s]
Okwu nkasiobi.

Let Obiano completes the airport first. The rest will be history.

Oilserv GCEO builds school complex in Anambra

The Group Chief Executive Officer of Oilserv Group, Dr Emeka Okwuosa, has donated a three-storey school complex donated by to Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Convent, Oraifite in the Egwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The indigenous oil and gas firm said in a statement that the multimillion-naira school complex was inaugurated last weekend.

The Archbishop of Enugu Ecclesiastical Province (Anglican Communion), Rt. Rev. Dr Emmanuel Chukwuma, commended Okwuosa for promoting human capacity development and for his efforts at taking youths off the street and engaging them in developmental programmes and training that would make them useful to the society.

According to him, the ultra-modern school complex has a capacity of housing 33 rooms, including 16 classrooms, one Information and Communication Technology room, a library, integrated studio and learning hub, crèche and kindergarten learning centre, a laboratory, art studio, medical and sports room.

In his speech, Okwuosa reiterated his commitment to always give back to the society through youth empowerment programmes, training, scholarships and building of infrastructure for the masses.

He said his contributions included 1.5km Dame Irene Nneka Okwuosa road; Umunzalu Town Hall and Community Civic Centre; 0.5km Eze Okpuzo road; a garri-processing factory; provision of motorcycles to indigenous residents to facilitate their transportation businesses, and rehabilitation and modification of a water project.

Others, according to him, are annual merit awards to students of Oraifite Boys Secondary School with outstanding academic performance in different subjects; skills acquisition and engineer training programmes carried out through Oilserv Limited and designed to train individuals in the field of engineering; and provision of local security to Irefi, Oraifite.

Okwuosa promised to develop the girls’ school in four phases with the provision of science laboratory, hostel and staff quarters within four years, describing the school complex as the first stage.

“This is not about me but for my late mother without whom I will not able to get the seed of reaching out to people with compassion and human kindness. My mother never had a female child yet many women and ladies passed through her mentoring. Our mother laid the good foundation for us,” he added.

Tbh, I understand ur point. You are actually more concerned about the viability of the airport and if the can generate enough money for its own maintenance while the people u are arguing with are just concerned about having an airport. To them, it doesn't matter if the airport can fund itself, all they want is just an airport in Anambra which shows the level of poor reasoning of an average African man.
When I first saw the report of Anambra state cooperating with an indigenous company and a Chinese company to spend a whooping 2 billion dollars on an Airport in Anambra ( a state that is not yet among the top 5 states considered by foreign investors to invest ) I was shocked because, that amount would have been used to either build a gas plant for the production of cooking and industrial gas or a power plant. You can just imagine how much Anambra state will be making monthly when the power plant is connected to the National grid and power is sold to Enugu disco or Port Harcourt disco. Imagine how much Anambra state can generate from the sale of gas of the industries in Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi or from the sale of cooking gas to millions of Nigerians who are constantly switching from kerosene to gas for cooking.
Asaba, Enugu and Owerri combined have not achieved up to 1 million passengers yearly and even when u add that to the traffic at Port Harcourt Airport, it will not be up to 1.8 million passengers yearly.
Anambra having its own Airport is not a bad idea but now is not the time to waste money on such. The government should get the land ( which they already have ) and wait for the right time to build the airport. How can the entire SE be witnessing a passenger traffic of about 800,000 yearly and u still want to build another Airport in the region? Is that not foolishness?
Re: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by chy101:
You two dunces are not more than millions of Anambrans that needs their own airport in their own state.

Biko when is the right time? This is why so many of you are miserable individually because you think the time is not ripe yet for you to migrate to the next level. There's never a right time, the right time is now if you are smart.

Anambra should have had their own airport over 30yrs ago(Oba airport), but that couldn't be at the time. But now the government is now on it and construction work is going on their night and day to meet the timeline given to then by the governor.

Anambra international airport is tied to economic advancement of Anambra state towards tapping the aviation fuel that will be produced by Orient when completed.

Airport is like having train terminal, bus terminal, seaport terminal etc. Anambra is a very important state economically and should have all these means of transportation as a frontline state. With most of its citizens accounting for Nigerians with most private jets we cannot afford to miss this. These are high networth individuals Anambra needs to advance its economic development ahead of the pact.

There's no advanced or developed country without all these means of transportation.

Just make ur point without insults and giving fake analysis about ownership of Private jets.
All I know is that the Anambra government may build the airport but the government dare not spend 2 billion dollars on it.

Nobody is spending 2b dollars anywhere. Even Abuja and Lagos were not built with such amount. Go and read the recent news about the project and how much the government appropriated for the project in 2020 budget. You guys should stop talking ignorantly here.

Who send Asaba message to build airport. When Uduaghan was building the airport why didn't you write all these things knowing fully well that the passengers are not there and his target for that is anambra state.

You should learn to start giving Delta state advice on what and what not to do.

Sometimes I don't understand what you doing here when warri is fast doing to danger zone.

Your advice is needed there not here.

Wow some people are crying over ongoing international cargo airport construction taken place in great Anambra state(umueri)...pls we are building new city...not just an airport... Anambra state government wants to build a mega city that will attract more investors.. Both foreign and local... The area selected for such city already HV outstanding refinery (Orient refinery) with alot of lands acquired by Estate developers to build world class standard estates that will serve as residential apartments... The city will be called airport city...or oil city... There is on going plan to build the largest and world class standard computer village there in the airport city....we need to have more nice cities in igboland...the airport city will creat job and employment... It will also be counted as one of the well planned cities in igboland, because it's a joined project between Anambra state government, her indigenes(orient petroleum refinery group) and Chinese investors.. I am happy to witness another city coming up in my state...we need to spread development to other parts of the state ..therefore the city will be well planned coz it will be built from the scratch.....Anambra needs Cargo airport more than any other states in Nigeria apart from.. Lagos..Abuja..kano and river state...Anambra state is a home of many well known business men and women in the country... Anambra state indegens are travellers... And resides in different parts of the world... Anambra state hv one of the biggest markets in west Africa...(Onitsha market...and Nnewi) Anambra international cargo airport is a welcome development. It will enhance the operation level Onitsha business district, generate revenue, attract visitors (in the case of airport city) and pull down a lot of investors... Kudos to Anambra state government.... Kudos to Orient refinery group.. Kudos to Chinese investors......

You still didn't get it.

I am not arguing with you. I am simply telling you that you dealing this thread with your sermon on the mount and flimsy excuses.

You have spent so much time masturbating on a single topic that the project is currently ongoing with no results.

Why dissipating your energy on another man's development.

As stated earlier , every state is an autonomous unit that has full right to pursue her development as deemed it.

We are not under one sort of region or province but clearly Independent to run our affairs the way we want and with our home grown solutions.

You have clearly deviated this thread too much with no positive results. The project is ongoing and so be it. Let the loss or gain be upon those who deemed it fit to construct such because the importance of the airport cannot be overemphasized.

Kindly take your advice to your own state and let others be. Nobody made you a consultant.
