The story has been told of the 'darkest city in the world' where the sun does not rise for 40 days. Locals walk down the snow-covered streets as frozen are gathers outside a shop in the Russian city of Murmansk An incredible collection of snaps has revealed the darkest city on earth where there is no sun for 40 days. Photographer Amos Chapple took a "night- mode" enabled smartphone camera to document life in Russia’s north through the polar night. A local worker tends to his stall as darkness sweeps over the arctic city From December 2 until January 11, the sun does not rise above the horizon in Murmansk. The city lies in the Russian Arctic circle. Amos captures a collection of stirring images of life in the area. The haunting image shows snow falling as locals make their way through a forest path About 100 kilometers to the east of Murmansk, boats lie frozen in the moonlight late at night. Murmansk was founded as Romanov-on- Murman in 1916, when Tsar Nicholas II sought an ice-free port that would allow war supplies to be shipped in from Russia’s allies. Photographer Amos Chapple used just a smart phone to capture the incredible images over the city Within months of the city’s founding, revolution swept the tsar from power and the city was renamed Murmansk. In World War II, Murmansk again became vital for the Soviet Union and its Western allies. Cars are completely covered in heavy snow during the bitter winter in northern Russia It was a main route for delivering materiel and aid for the Red Army. In 1941, Murmansk’s defenders held off attacks from German forces, but the city was largely wiped out by Nazi air raids. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/10685886/inside-the-darkest-city-on-earth-murmansk/ lalasticlala |

Wow. This is breathtaking! The complexity of the universe and existence itself is beyond mediocre. I still wonder how atheists are able to convince themselves that life started randomly. 9 Likes |

Chai!! Wonders shall never end! But isn't it interesting? Take a look at the irony- A city where the sun doesn't rise at all Is much brighter and looks safer Than a city that has the sun for more than half of the day Think about it 1 Like |

MycroftHolmes: Same way you're able to convince yourself that the world was created by a certain God whose son is a Jew, whose idea of 'merciful' involves doing nothing when his faithfuls are persecuted, and who has business centres across Nigeria where tithes and offerings are milked from followers daily. 2 Likes |

MycroftHolmes: You do not know the information, yet you know it must be incorrect. You must be in Christianity, the only people who do not know that Jesus was not a Christian. 1 Like |

Vortex369: I implied that the information is probably incorrect, I didn't say it must be. Of course, Jesus was not a Christian. He couldn't have been a christian cos Christianity began after his death. From the Bible account, he's more of a philanthropist (someone who has love for humanity). Do have a nice day, I'm done here. |
