I'll like to hear what the custom boss has to say before proper analysis. But reducing the custom officers from 30k to 15 is a very very good one. Most are corrupt hence getting rid of them 8s a good start. Paying 16b for recruiting 3000 people seems like a lot but it all depends on the details.
All govt agencies needs to reduce their staffs, all govts and agencies are over bloated across the country, one of the reasons why some can't pay salaries on time. And by the time salaries are paid, not much is left for capital development. Its vicious circle.

A soldier is nit trained to generate revenue rather to defend her country against external aggression.
I see no reason why Col Hameed Ali should head customs where we have senoir customs officers around.

It is sickening that you people are always quick to play the ethnic card. It is only on this platform that I hear 'Yoruba muslim' or 'Yoruba Christian'. in reality, no religious division among the yorubas. If a person says anything contrary to your opinion, you are always quick to tag the person 'yoruba muslim' even though this is a faceless forum. Just learn to state your opinion and move on please.

The vice chairman, Senate Committee on Customs, Francis Fadahunsi, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, over alleged fraud and incompetence in the service.

Speaking in an interview with the Punch on Sunday, Mr Fadahunsi, the Senator representing Osun East Senatorial District, alleged that Mr Ali’s sheer incompetence and poor border control had resulted in the proliferation of small arms was now threatening the nation’s existence.

According to him, Customs boss allowed traders to smuggle contraband goods and items into the country, despite a ban by the Federal Government.

Mr Fadahunsi further said: “I told the Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd.), that his border management is poor.

“You don’t need to carry guns and start running after those people who have settled your boys. It is wrong, they paid bribes to the boys at the border and they are still running after them now.

“The border management is poor and it has failed. The same failure is seen at the ports, and that is the cause of port congestion.”

The senator said a competent professional should be in charge of Customs.
“Soldiers are not trained to generate revenue.

They are trained to buy ammunition and to kill.
“This man met more than 30,000 personnel in the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), and today they are not more than 15,000 left, he has sacked all of them.

“If you see the fraud in the Customs now, you will be shocked, but nobody must talk. They make noise to cover this up, but if you go into their books, you will be surprised.

“Customs headquarters was awarded for N2.7 billion then, but today the project is going to about N30 billion.

“The project has not been completed but the furniture contract for the uncompleted building has been awarded.

“Who is fooling who? If Mr. President sees what the man is doing, he will run out of the country.
“That is why I am saying that Mr. President should put a technical person from Customs there; if not, the man will run the place aground.

“The CG wants to recruit 3,200 persons and he paid N1.6 billion to a consultant to recruit 3,200 persons. The money is not for training but to just recruit them.

“I asked him if the Nigerian army ever used consultants to recruit personnel and he said no. He said Customs officers are corrupt and he is bringing in a consultant to recruit 3,200 persons and he will pay the firm N1.6 billion.

“Are you recruiting five million people? The N1.6 billion is even in the budget and that is one of the reasons the budget was being queried by the leadership of the Senate,” Mr Fadahunsi said.

The guy sound like his smuggled car was forced to cough duty fees. Anyone who knows basic government procurement will tell you many times the construction of a building and it's furniture contract are awarded simultaneously, he simply is saying many things without the proper context.

If you claim custom officials are corrupt, there is no doubt that is why the government had to shut the borders but to claim customs has not improved is a deadly lie from the pit of hell, we have witnessed improvement in duties collection and overall revenue generation from customs. But much has to be done in ending corruption by customs officials.

The guy use to be part of the custom top boss.

Other than news of figures quoted by customs as earnings, what have you really witnessed? Has the congestion our one and only port is known for eased? What efficient means of operation can you confidently vouch for? Is it really okay to pay 1.6billion naira to recruit 3200 persons ie @ N500,000/person? Make una take am easy o!

this man is a well trained custom officer during his service years. firstly he was the chairman ecowas custom anti smuggling and border patrol. secondly you need to watch how he advise the customs boss during their 2020 buget defense in the senate. the just need to take this Yoruba senator serious.

IS PMB FIGHTING CORRUPTION OR CORRUPTION FIGHTING HIM? IS CUSTOMS ALI ACTUALY MAKING MORE MONEY?
