Hague! You honestly think the west is your friend. Have they finished trying each other for what they did and continue to do?
saaron:
Only a rotten country like Nigeria you will see war criminals like Gowon living like kings and granting interviews. People like him should have been arrested, tried/prosecuted in the Hague and executed for crimes against humanity long ago.
The fact, that he's still walking free is a pointer to the fact that Nigeria as a country does not value human life. Nigeria is one of the few rotten countries where murderers are celebrated and rewarded.
It's for this reason no single fulani terrorist have been prosecuted for genocide across the country till date.

What will the 6 countries be? How you take divide am? I'm interestedin hearing yoir view

I sincerely wished Gowon had not been over zealous in helping the North achieve its grip on this nation by holding on to other regions. I see no reason why we can't have six country out of this present sh_thole, where a president who cannot to be effective as a WhatsApp admin is busy messing this country up. The rate of hardship is increasing on a daily basis. Look at what has become of our electricity situation, he has completely eroded the gains made by the past administrator, which the present administration was claiming to be body language, because they knew they had contributed nothing.

That's one of the most interesting events of the Nigerian Civil War, and these are my reasons

1.Propaganda: The Feds were sending a message to the Igbos that the war was not a vendetta against them...see we buried one of your gallant heroes.

2.During wars, millitaries have often times buried the bodies of their opponents with full millitary honors. Not all the time , but it does happen.

3.The honest truth is that before January 15 1966, the Army was a very close knit unit. Many of the officers and men fighting with each other during the civil war were friends and pals during the First Republic. Add the fact that Nzeogwu was actually very Northern in culture. (he was born and bred in Kaduna, and spoke Hausa very fluently...). The coups messed the Army up (which is why over the years many Nigerian Army officers haven't really been fond of coups.)
It still doesn't make sense for people claiming revenge to bury and honour the very object of their vengeance

Perhaps if they really liked Nzeogwu they shouldn't have gone around killing Igbo soldiers and people

A lot people have read the story about what happened before and after the war. In all fairness, if Azikwe was killed along side other politicians then, there wouldn't be sentiment as regards the intention of the people that carried out the operation, but different things came to play as who and who that were killed from the North and Southwest. Afterwards, Ironsi action also showed that the nation had been hijacked by one section of the country. So, my brothers from the East need to analyse the whole thing very well and stop apportion blames.

Oga what of Lt Col Unegbe some where from orlu, if u dont know ifeajuna killed him along with gen maimalari
it was never a one sided coup

And if Nzeogwu did care about how bad things were in the First Republic, perhaps it would have been better if he resigned and had gone into politics, instead of seeking to overthrow the government.

The run up to independence was filled with lots of competition between tribes...which led to violence occasionally (see the 1952 Kano riots for example). Nzeogwu by organizing his coup ended up pouring kerosene on a smouldering fire .

Of course, it would also have been better if Northern politicians and people had waited for the Law to take its course against the murderers, and also it would have been better if the political class at the time just did not hand over to Ironsi, or Ironsi had punished the coup plotters .immediately...and so on

-The core northern blood & power thirsty elements used you as their stooge to hold unto power in the 1966 Nigeria only to consolidate their griphold & shove you aside on 29th July 1975.

-Despite fighting the civil war to force the eastern region back into the Nigerian state even with the progrom and marginalisation up till date, the bastardization of the Nigeria state by these same clique as before the pre-1966 era have only gone from bad to worst.

-The middle belt have remained a slaughter ground with senseless bloodshed & killings, heavy militarization, and ethno-religious & supremacist cleansing.Lt.Gen.TY Danjuma(Rtd) have said enough in that regard.

Posterity has already started dealing with u even in ur lifetime. Jos,benue whom were the major stakeholders during naija civil war is now a hunting ground for fulani herdsmen&terrorists. The herdsmen are jst doing promo in south and whole south is making all the noise. Do u know what the indigenes of plateau, benue& other middle beltans in the north central&north east go thru. If that war had suceeded, we wouldn't be here. One nigeria kill u there.

How do you nonentities from Yoruba land concort all these lies and feel so happy and proud of it Na wa o.

I bet, you find it difficult to feed, you earn less than 100k a month and you envy successful Igbos around you, and your only reason for faking love for Hausa-Fulanis is because they are poor and dejected like you. It is well with you and your household, but purge yourself of all these foolishness and focus more on improving your financial life so that you will become somebody valuable outside Nairaland.

Honestly, you Yoruba Muslims are the only reason people are disliking the great Yoruba tribe, Islam seems to be a very bad virus that corrupts people's thinking faculty, get help soon!

As for Gowon and the entire Middlebelt, they are paying hugely for their foolishness of joining force with Hausa-Fulanis to fight Eastern Nigeria between 1966 - 1969, you can visit Jos, Benue, Taraba, etc for evidence.

You spoke a lot of sense there, and fair.
Bottom line though remains that, Nigeria as it stands today is a big disgrace, not a country any sensible fellow can be proud of, and from what we can see things are only getting worse as time goes.

My little advice to you, this is new year, spend more time improving your financial life, you are struggling with your life and your only joy is hating on successful Igbos that you cannot measure up to....if you like take my counsel or not, but something in me tells me you are struggling badly to survive and if you don't change your ways, your destiny helper who will be an Igbo man/woman will pass you by, watch and see!

Your likes have made me to stop rendering help to any Yoruba, God forgive me, but you guys are annoying, so annoying and foolish, hating people that contribute to the growth of your region while hailing those that kill and destroy your people all out of envy, you guys are pathetic angry

So its only right Nigerian Army took his body back for a proper cerimonial burial as he grew up in the North and was close to them
