If it is now sacrilegious for people to use reallocated SIMs, I think the telecom companies should stop recycling such numbers. Is there a law that legalizes sim recycling? If no, then its illegal. Else, it shouldn't be prohibited.

If you buy sim and you receive calls on it don't be scared to return sim to mtn or at tell your caller the number has been reallocated
Why should mtn be the collection center for all reallocated sim cards. Is the mtn now representing the other service providers?

If DSS has a case against okolie, then they should produce the call logs they presume to be shady to the court. Mr Okolie has won this case

Since when did it become a crime to buy a re-allocated SIM number?

The Hanan Bihari issue was just a one-off incident
everything is a crime in Nigeria as far as you are on the other side of the divide ie poor masses

Better still, before selecting a suitable SIM, type in the number on truecaller. A virgin number shouldn't pop up any name.
Truecaller only has names saved on it. Not all names are on it

Actually, the chances of getting a sim previously used by a fraudster is somewhat high. Because one scammer can have like 50 different SIM cards that he disposes after each fraud

don't say it's rubbish. Even without Hannan Buhari, you might buy a sim used for fraud or kidnappingor even armed robbery and murder.. I find yourself in a situation worse than Okolie's.

I wonder if at that point you'll call it rubbish
Oga it's rubbish, if police and DSS did proper investigation, they should be able to know if sim is recycled or not.

It is not a crime, but it can put you in trouble in a country such as ours where law enforcement is largely a joke.

Not just the new user, the old user could be in trouble if the new user is involved in shady activity. If truecaller can identify the previous user it may mean that NCC's old bio may remain active and in a law enforcement case it can be claimed that the phone was merely lent for crminal activities and not really transferred.

I think the authorities needs to get a handle on the growing menace and come up with a working solution albeit one that is user friendly. We don't want the problems of obtaining so called 'police reports' or 'police permits' as in some automobile resales.
