I don’t understand why people are criticizing Trump on this. His duty is to protect his citizenry. And there is policy is squarely aimed at that

How can a country like Nigeria spend billions of dollars on Identity Management and yet we have nothing to show for it. If I commit a crime today, our government does not have the capability to match my fingerprint from the crime scene with the fingerprint in a database and that’s the issue America has.

If I am on an Immigrant visa in the US and I commit a crime, the US wants to be able to match my DNA or Fingerprint collected at the scene with shared database from Nigeria and other countries.

Trump has not said you can’t enter for Tourism, Schooling or Business. Only for those who want to stay permanently. It is the right thing to do

The ball is in the court of our clueless President to get a proper Identity Management System and share it with the USA. Simple as ABC
This exactly is the issue in addition to Nigerians overstaying their visas.

Yoighaman:
We can all see from this release by the DHS that the restrictions all boil down to security issues in contrast to the popular belief that it is because our people overstay their visa.

Nigeria's security risk is presently at an all-time high and no one should blame the US for its action, rather, put the blame on the incompetence of your security chiefs who are headed by a religious and tribalistic bigot.

Re-read it again, they all factor into that security assessment.

When doing these types of assessments; the US placed exposure to homeland risk and list various factors and assign points to them, then collect the final tally and make a decision base on the final tally, which in this case is overall security risk.

e.g.

Take two hypothetical countries scores
Country A:
1. Identity management - 40%
2. Data & info sharing - 40%
3. Rate of immigration- 70%
4. Percentage of overstay - 19%

Country B:
1. Identity management - 40%
2. Data & info sharing - 40%
3. Rate of immigration - 70%
4. Percentage of overstay - 10%

Despite the fact that, the first data points are the same, the US will consider country A as a more security threat, because they are exposed to more individuals from that country compare to the other.

Nigeria situation is also more complicated because the rate of migration from Nigeria is very high, such that for some years now, we have breached the statistical limits given to all countries on the diversity visa category and as such we have not been eligible for it.

So, if you add the fact that Nigeria rate of immigration in Africa to the US is the highest, then Nigeria will present a higher security threat to the US, even if all other security risk barometers within those Africa Countries are the same.

Nigeria is definitely going to be on that list forever .. we don’t have a centralized identity management system .. any Fulani herdsman , terrorist , murderer or armed robber can commit a crime in Kano serve his time or pay his way out and move to lagos to start life over .. there is no way for the US to verify his criminal background when he is applying for an immigrant visa .. and the Bunch of Nigerians adjusting status in the US, after biometrics , can only have the FBI reports of their activities since arrival in the US and not their criminal activities while they were in Nigeria which is also very important. We have a long way to go. We have fingerprints from Bvn, NIMC, drivers Licence , voters card ,passport , yet no centralized identity system . Commit a crime in Chicago and run to Texas , as long as you have your finger prints taken at any point it’s only a matter of time before you are caught ... can we say same for Nigeria

Yeah, and I'm sure Nigeria is the only country in the world that lacks a so-called centralized identity management system. and I'm also sure every single criminal in the US is sitting behind bars.....SMH

angry

Insecurity is the main reason.

All thanks to those idiots that were burning USA flag all because of one Iranian general that didn't even know they existed.

Do you know what it means to burn the USA flag?
The implication??

Imagine you see someone burning your company flag, then the next week, a relation of that person that burns your flag comes for employment.

Would you grant him employment?? not to talk of even allowing him step foot or get closer to the company's gate.

It means terrorists.

Some of us don't know we have USA citizens here on nairaland. They monitor and read everything Nigerians say about the US.

Nigeria should even be the NO 1 country that shouldn't be granted visa by the US embassy.

Some idiots and retard we shared this country with are the cause of all these.

The president should have arrested those people burning the USA flag. unlike when you see an APC member burning a pdp flag or pdp burning brooms.

We need a leader that has vision.

Say no to Tribalism.

Tribalism is dangerous to progression.

Our leaders have failed us.

Yeah, Americans who burn their flags must also be terrorists, or maybe you don't even know that they are allowed to and do do that?SMH

Trump is not your friend, he is a white supremacist and racist.

Most Africans and people of African permanently live in a state of cognitive dissonance and denial when it comes to issues of racism, hence they will willfully ignore the statement of fact you made despite its truthfulness....smh

Suspension of entry for Immigrants, except as Special Immigrants whose eligibility is based on having provided assistance to the U.S. Government.

Can someone with better English understanding translate the bold part to me in my local lang tongue So the US want us to leak our country information or what?

No they want to provide enough verifiable information about urself to their government to be able to identify u accurately I think.

My understanding of the part in bold is that Nigerians can no longer immigrate to the US except those that have acted as moles for the US government. Very harsh and unnecessary.

The Federal government should engage the US government diplomatically to get the restriction reversed. If Trump insist on keeping the restriction after all necessary engagements, we should consider a reciprocal decision.
Your head dey there jor!
And guess what, many of our corrupt politicians privy to privileged information are their main moles. America has so much dirt on them they are forced to cooperate. So the average Emeka, Kunle, Osaze, Timpriye or Danladi is not needed.

Sadly we have very little leverage these days. America produces far more crude oil than anybody else now. If we try reciprocating they will hit us even harder. So how they have hit China.

Numerous opportunities in this country but alas it's filled with unpatriotic citizens who'd bash and elope the country in a flash.. It's a shame really this Nigeria holds too much potential to remain like this.

Very true. If you are abroad, the person or persons you are sending money to monthly is/are feeding better than you. They can spread that 10,000 to 25,000 Naira thinly and feed well than you, because they know where to get cheap foodstuff. They are eating Semovita, Amala ( both black & white ), Eba, Pounded Yam, all kinds of soups, They buy chicken, fish, meat, snails etc to spice their soups. You are in Europe or America working your ass off to pay bills etc. When last did the people you send money to in Nigeria send you a gift? When last did they buy common garri for you? Do they even ask about you and your welfare at all? Some of them are secretly building their house while collecting 10,000 naira from you monthly cool cool cool cool cool.

the fact is that Buhari is trading with Russia and China and this is worrisome to US, with Russia aggreeing to complete Ajaokuta, and even promissing to build us two nuclear plant with a soft loan on top of that they gave us Apache helicopters which Americans would want us to wait till 2022 after paying 300million usd for mere super tucano turbo prop plane (planes with fan engine, not jet) this is upseting Trump

Over Staying rate of US visa by Nigerians have drastically reduced because of reduced Visa issuiance, even when it was on the rise Trump did nothing until we started looking for trade with the russians , Nigerians have the most law abiding US migrants in the US Army, as College Professors, Nurses and Paramedics, something lazy redneck American Racist cant do

Oloshi Trump and his Dunce Nigerian supporters, Nigeria doesnt need your VISA, we dont need your aids, and we dont need you stashing our Abacha loot, what we need are simply

*Stop Blocking our access to use our own uranium to have nuclear powers
*Stop stopping am sales from other countries to us
*Stop recieving our looted fund and seizing it for your own development
*Stop blocking our attempts at using coal with useless paris agreemnet even when you are still using coal plants
*American Chevron should also stop benefiting from our resources, you cant be milking as high as 40% in NNPC JV and keep lambasting our people

.
oga do u understand English at all.d ban was because of insecurity and no central data base sys for criminals nobody wants terrorists into thier country to me what they did was right until we are ready to fix this sorry to say I think they just classified Nigeria as a terrorist state....Afghanistan Syria and Iraq fall into this category and we just joined them.nobody is talking of who and who is supplying weapons to who.u dat dont have common light u are talking of nuclear plant do u know d resources u need to put in place to maintain d smallest nuclear plant..u want us to self destruct ourselves .I reject nuclear plant in jesus name a country with no single refinery were oil is in abundance is talking of uranium oga grow up and respect ur age o
