After the Warioba commision showed that 60 % of Zanzibaris were unhappy with the terms of the union your national govt (the occultic CCM) opposed any further discussions that would lead to more autonomy fearing it would lead to increased demands for independence and the eventual dissolution of the union. Zanzibaris are not fools. Dont forget that the mainlanders should have no say in the union debate. Their opinions dont matter because the shoe pains the Zanzibaris. 100 % of tanganyikans can support the union but Zanzibaris dont give a piss. Its they who are affected. Tanganyikans take many jobs on the Island which is a major problem. There is nothing like the majority of Zanzibaris wanting the union. The refferendum was done during the Kikwete era of Tanzanian politics where the political air was more thinner, but that is what the people want and that is the relationship between Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar have.

Just because YOU would not like such a union that does not mean that the Zanzibaris would hate it.

Even if you go to Zanzibar now (I doubt you will) and ask them they will tell you that the Union has done more good than harm to better the situation in Zanzibar.
