VAT wasn't imposed on airtime, the service providers tried imposing it but was resisted by Nigerians . VAT is imposed on call charges unknown to you. These service providers deliberately display the charges for you to see in other to boycott it

Depending on your tariff plan. If your tariff is MTN talk more you are charged 12k/sec or N7.20/min to all networks. N100 worth of calls should give you 14 mins while VAT is N2.94(0.21k * 13 minutes). Invariably you pay N102.94 (N100 + N2.94). If you deduct N200 from N102.94 you are left with N97.06.
