My friend's mother from Ijebu speaks Igbo well because she attended her secondary education in Owerri but lives in the South-West now.

Some who grew up in Igbo-dominated neighbourhoods also learnt to speak the language. For such, it gives them automatic passport to the Eastern heartland just like speaking Yoruba helps Igbo people too to enjoy many perks and benefits in the South-west.

Truthfully, there are Yoruba people who can actually speak Ibo language conveniently without problem simply because, some of were either born or lived their lives in the Southeast and at times, it is inquisitiveness to know that make them to learn it.

Yes. There are small concentrations of Yoruba people here and there in the east, and some of them can speak Igbo.

There was a Yoruba boy in my class in secondary school (I went to UNSSEC in Enugu) who spoke perfect unaccented Igbo. I think his dad was a lecturer at UNN and he wrote the computer textbooks we used in school at the time. (I won't mention his last name, but if you schooled in Enugu you may already know his dad ).

My friend recently introduced me to his Yoruba tailor in Onitsha who can communicate effectively in Igbo, although he speaks it haltingly and with an accent.
