Shagari was no good leader.

Someone who failed to rein in his corrupt subordinates and whose bad economic management left us exposed when oil prices collapsed in 1982, and who was just as bigoted as Buhari .

He was a weak but a compassionate leader whose regime wrecked the economy. Umaru Dikko(one of his ministers) callously said people are yet to eat from the dustbin so no poverty in Nigeria!

I haven't seen any activist existing before 1983, who didn't condemn Shagari's government regarding excess corruption.

Corruption thrived so much that Buhari had to kick him out.

Infact, Babangida had to ban him for life from participating in politics

If he had been a bit sterner with some of his subordinates, things might have been much different.

He was a good person.
Because the generals wanted to steal billion of dollars, they overthrew him.

1. Nzeogwu's coup speech refers to the ten percenters, or government officials that take ten percent of government contract money

2. Murtala Muhammad spent most of his brief time in office fighting corruption

3. Gowon was overthrown in part because of the corrupt activities of some parts of his government.

And so on
