accurate prophecies are a way to lay claim to legitimacy and authencity. In a world with so many false teachers, there is a need to separate the shaft from the wheat amongst the ministers of God. The competition to claim the "trophy" (that is if there's any) is as a result of this trend

Prophecy are words or writings of a prophet interpreting the will of the gods.

Will of the gods are obtained via divination, inspiration, dream, dejavu, myths....and so on.

Practically everyone on earth is a prophet since we all live the will of the gods through our daily encounters and exchanges.

So whats special about someone telling me god appeared to him in a dream? Is there any human that god does not appear to...whether in dream or conscious awareness?

People that forecast and claim prophecy are nothing but frauds.

Anyone can forecast anything they want.

If you have not been getting spot-on forecasts by yourself then I agree you do need help from these Church prophets.

Almost everyone I know, and myself, get a hit on our forecasts, we have no need for a fraud.

there is indeed a need for prophets in our midst. some have spent more time in the presence of God to know his will, and God uses them to instruct his people on the right way to go. Not everyone is disciplined or trained or even sensitive enough to catch spiritual info once it is released. Sometimes the prophet is the conduit pipe for such information to be relayed from God to his people. There were prophets of old, and there are prophets today.
