Define Your Success
It was during my final year in school that a friend of mine asked me this question ‘Karo, you living here in this hostel, where almost all your neighbours have things that you don’t have, doesn't that make you feel depressed sometimes’?

And I remember telling him that if there was one thing being my parents child thought me so well, it's to be contented with what I have. We had this discussion on and on and everything I said revolved around that.

But today, I want to answer that same question now, even if no body is asking. Sincerely, I wasn't interested in owning the things my neighbours had while I was in school. And am not talking about plasma TV and DSTV here(I think that was like the most ordinary thing in my hostel and I had non) am talking about cars and it's like.

I would say to myself every morning, Karo, you have a goal, you have a destination and most importantly, you happen to know this goal, you know where you are headed and you will get there at your own time.

That was my way of defining success for myself and for as long as I could remember my purpose, I had absolutely no reason to look at my neighbours and feel a certain level of shame. I understood that they had their own path and I have mine.

Too many are times we dwell ourselves too much in other people's success stories that we subconsciously drag our minds into depression. We so easily look at other people's lives and begin to feel less grateful for our own journey.

All that should stop!
And for that to happen, you need to tell yourself what success is to you!
That when you see your neighbour’s achieving things in their journey, all you can feel is genuine happiness for them and hope for your fulfillment.

All good and well but that’s not human nature. A real human being wants good things others have and feels a tinge of envy if they have it while he doesn’t

I don't think that's exactly correct. The tinge of envy and wanting what others have, has nothing to do with human nature.
It has more to do with what we have moulded ourselves into becoming

It is a normal human being’s nature. Even a baby will start crying seeing another baby sucking her mother’s breast or if another baby gets the toy while he doesn’t.

Let me pretend to agree with you that it's a normal human nature.
Is that the best way to live?

No, but many things in nature are not the best way to live. It is not the best way to live for a lion to be killing innocent animals, but it is his nature. You may modify it, make him a vegetarian, but he would no longer be lion as nature intended.
The best way to live is for all humans and countries to live in love and harmony, no barriers, no wars, no competition, no need for visas. Everything owned communally and everyone taking only what he needs.
But every time that has been attempted it failed woefully.

Then maybe we just keep trying until it's no more a failure

Oh it has been successful b4 but always ultimately failed due to that human nature I talked about.

Also there is no “we”. Too many people just don’t want communism
