I think even if anyone can financially sponsor themself, they should still apply for assistantship. It is absolutely crazy, to want to spend so much money on any programme abroad when you can get them fairly easily for almost free with a good GRE and maybe TOEFL or IELTS scores.
Hi Rocktation, apart from the languages test, is the GRE required in UK schools?
Thanks.

Most UK schools do not require the GRE. GRE is mainly for schools in the US...where lots of international students prefer, cos there are lots of loopholes that you can take advantage of when it comes to staying back in the country, as against the UK. Plus, it is The US... I don't know a lot of people that would give that up for the UK.

I graduated from the university in 2017 and served the following year, have tried a couple of job applications and internship programs but none has paid off.

Days back my parents asked me to apply for a masters programme abroad, since they would have less financial engagement next year, they would be able to sponsor me comfortably, I suggested giving me the money to setup a business instead, but they were not too interested.

But am confused don't know where to start, and how to go about it I.e application, visa etc.. I know a lot of experienced readers are here who have been there, and i know their are people like me out there who want to learn and gain vital information.

I graduated same year and served the following year as well. Also applied for jobs and internships but none seemed to work out. In my own case, I'm not from a financially advantaged home, so I have resorted to applying for scholarships for masters abroad. I think I have applied up to 4 masters scholarships so far. I think you should try same.

Nairalanders kindly help me clarify this issue. I am currently applying to a school in Canada for masters program. The requirement says GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 in the last two years of undergraduate studies or second class upper. I graduated with 3.43/5.0 but in my last two years, my GPA (out of 5.0) are 4.05, 5.0, 3.76, 3.83 consecutively. Using WES GPA calculator, all are above 3.0. Will i be considered?

The right step to study for a masters abroad is to make sure the recipient country gives you opportunity to stay there and look for work legally after your graduation.

Thus countries like canada, US, Australia should come into your mind.

If your fees are not that much, consider English speaking arabic countries such as Bahrain, UAE, etc. These countries are seriously underated, no income tax, plentiful of jobs etc, Forget anything about religion and focus on your life for now

Dont be scared of starting new things, going into a country for a first time is the equivalent of sometimes travelling to a new state within your country for the first time, at first you wont know anyone. It is normal.

All you have to make sure is that the country will allow you to stay and find work. This is because the money you paid back in tuition fees and accomodation, etc. It is feasible that you make it all back even before you leave that country. It is just common sense really

Dont join the bandwagon, cos my friends are going here, one uncle said this one uncle said that.

AVOID THE UK. AVOID THE UK, AVOID COMING TO THE UK FOR MASTERS OR FOR ANYTHING

The day your visa ends as a student here in the UK, it is the day they stop even acknowledging that you were even once a student and it is one of the most expensive countries to live in the World.

If you have already made the mistakes stated above, well for now you are on your own, perhaps you just need to keep pushing and trying to find a job within Nigeria for now or start to look for countries you can go for further study in
What about Germany?

Intelligent response.
1StopRudeness:
To apply for masters degree takes less than 30mins to 1hr if you have all the necessary document.

So get your
1) certificate

2)Transcript ( number 2 is important than number one cos oyinbo wants to see the number of units u have from 100-400level. Most UK schools require around 180-240units in ur bachelors and it most be honours......that’s why some HND aren’t eligible for masters until they get extra credits thru a postgrad-Diploma)
3) IELTS: you may or may not need this but if u have it on ground you will be able to apply for many schools as possible. If not, you will need to apply to schools that enable their portal to accept application without IELTS score.then later you can negotiate your bachelors was taught in English so the IELtS can be waived. But some school no dey gree...

4)GED: if your destination is USA, u might need a GED

5) motivation letter or statement of purpose
Oyinbo Dey very emotional and they like to hear that this is part of fulfilling a dream. No one can tell it better than you. But u can always hire a pro to write it. It can destroy you application if it’s poorly written.

6) start scatering the internet for for available school that offer the course you want...this part is easy....

7) application fee: if u chose UK, most schools don’t charge application fee except Oxford, Cambridge, Warwick and a few others...Some school in Europe charge as well. But u can get a lot of schools in Europe that don’t charge too.
United state schools and Canadian univeristies usually charge btw 75-200dollars ...
