Honestly, I don't know how it will help Nigeria or the Nigeria people. The Nigeria senate yesterday provided a fresh Bill To introduce a ban on the importation, sales and use of electricity generating sets. And that anyone found guilty would upon conviction be liable to imprisonment for a term of not less than ten years. In the Bill, Senator Bima said that the ban would exclude Essential Services. According to him, ” The ban/prohibition of generating sets shall not include generating sets used for essential services which include: Medical purposes (hospitals and nursing homes and healthcare facilities), Airports, Railway Stations/Services, Elevators (lifts); Escalators. Accordingly, it is proposed that the purpose of the bill is to curb environmental pollution and speed the development of the power sector in Nigeria. On hearing about this bill, I was completely bewildered and feel bad for the old woman in my street who depends on her generator to ice her frozen foods. Even me, I wonder how I will cope if it is finally passed into law. Anyway, my question is, do we have to suffer before there can be any positive development in the power sector in this country? I remember vividly when I was younger, I was told that the importers of generator sets are the reason why we don't have light in this country. �� � � If that is true, does it mean that if this bill succeeds, they will run out of business and Nigeria will then have constant light? � We really need to see how this we unfold and hope it is for the best. Please oh, I am talking based on where I stay in the country, light is brought only for 5hours daily and that is if there is no main pour oooh. Because I know Lagos people think otherwise about light issue. � � � � WHAT DO YOU THINK? IS THIS THE SOLUTION TO THE NIGERIA LIGHT PROBLEM? Total madness. Senators with zero sense of reasoning, trying to do notice me so the won't be tagged useless and still passing useless bills...same with lagos State governor banning motorcycle and tricycle without providing any good means and leaving commuters stranded everyday....only in Nigeria we must be made to suffer for them implimenting a policy to work and still never achieved on long run.......stupid governments 1 Like |

Nigeria is peculiar country that needs Drastic Measures to Redeem.... Ghana was on a similar road until a Drastic Measure was taken by A young man called Jerry Rawlings.. How do u imagine a country that Exports Power to other nations , and the nations have steady power. Yet the same Nation is Epileptic in the same power. Is that Normal? President Goodluck Jonathan tried to Take a Drastic Measure in the petroleum sector and Nigerians went berserk! Let's ask ourselves, has the problem been solved! We are even paying much higher now and the subsidy is still being paid. The problems are still there.. It took Drastic Measures of Bvn to curb embezzlements today in Nigeria.. I personally know of Nations in Africa today, that do not have one tenth of what Nigeria has, yet Power is long forgone issue.. The power issue in Nigeria is sponsored by a Group of canals... I remember when Engr Nnaji was Power Minister during GEJ tenure. He did what he did , Electricity became constant, but what happened? The Cabals tackled him and fought him down. Righteousness89:I don't remember any bill or law being passed during Prof. Barth Nnaji's short dispensation, but things actually started working out well in the power sector. Will these Senators get rid of their generators or be ready to put themselves below the law? Or is the proposed bill targeted at the usual suffering and smiling victims? Any government that cares about her citizens will set up structures, implement them (and they don't have to be working 100% yet) dismantle conflicting structures and consolidate on the new ones. In Nigeria, every government is more concerned about destroying the former and building their own (without due and total consideration), leaving the economy worse than they originally met it. deekseen:My Brother, you can't force anyone to do away with his Generator but the source of the Generator coming into the country can be stopped... That's one of the Major source of power failure in Nigeria.. If that bill should be passed, it won't just be Eldorado... because the Cabals will fight back.. Power becomes a Major source of income and the government will know that without the power, the income will not come in.. |
