Ibime, nihilistjnr What’s this I’m hearing about UK and herd immunity experiment on this Covid-19 issue. Is Boris Johnson okay? |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Ibime(m): 12:36am On Mar 15, 2020*. Modified: 1:00am On Mar 15, 2020 |
larride:The man is mad, but I think he's backtracking over the last few hours. He wants 40 million UK people to catch the thing to develop herd immunity, with no ICU beds to treat them over the next few months. That means he's willing to accept 400,000 deaths at least to develop this herd immunity thing, when he could put the country on lockdown and slow the rate so ICU can semi-cope while they build more ICU capacity and hope the summer buys more time to build more ICU capacity. As things stand, I think he is reasoning that UK needs probably 30,000 ICU beds for Corona, almost all of which will become redundant after a vaccine is found. UK only has 4,000 ICU beds for it's normal course of business. So rather than build capacity that would become redundant after Corona passes, he would rather take the hit in terms of human lives - also factoring keeping the economy going in light of upcoming Brexit rather than going into lockdown. So now with his new policy, there is no more testing for Corona in UK. You only get tested if you get hospitalised with breathing difficulties. This is to keep pressure off the NHS while implementing his herd immunity policy i.e you can only go hospital if you need ventilation. When I saw China building two 1,000 bed hospitals in one week, I just knew UK would not be able to match the speed needed to cope with the virus. Thank God I bought enough Chloroquine and other items they use to treat patients in China and South Korea and sent to family members cos a few of them fall within the high risk bracket. British people always believe that the NHS will take care of them, but looking at NHS capacity, and with this new Boris policy, I always believed that when this Coronavirus hits UK, it's every man for himself. |

Ibime:Historically, they didn't find any vaccine for all the pandemics Spanish flu, Black Death, Ebola and Sarz. the best way is to manage it like Chinese and Korean government are doing by isolating the affected and the unaffected. based on what has happened in the past, the only way corona virus dies is when it run out of host |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 9:50am On Mar 15, 2020 |
larride:The idea is to slow the impact to hospitals for them not to collapse. If you can distribute the spread of the virus over a longer time period, more people can be saved. If you overwhelm the hospitals in one big spike, then many more will die as there aren’t enough beds for everyone. |

| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by larride(m): 10:43am On Mar 15, 2020 |
Kimbeast:Is that not a very risky experiment? 60% of UK population is around 40m, this virus has mortality rate of 3.4%. If the mortality rate remains the same, that’s a possible 1.3m death. If the idea is to slow the impact, they should have started containment measures early on. He better backtrack and look for a better alternative. The US has already added Uk and Ireland to the travel ban. |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Ibime(m): 11:22am On Mar 15, 2020 |
larride:Mortality rate should be just under 1% cos many people have mild symptoms. On a normal day, people like Hudson-Odoi and Arteta will not have the resources to test and confirm the virus, so they'll write it off as flu. So I think 400,000 people or less. |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by afrodoc2: 11:33am On Mar 15, 2020 |
Ibime:400,000 should still be unacceptable to a political leader. The main strategy should be slowing down the rate of transmission in order to allow time for capacity building and to avoid ICU overload. This is what will peg down the mortality rate. |

Ask your mentor, Dayo, i once informed him where i played and no need telling you dolt, who refused to ask first. Next time let your brain work faster than your fingers. | Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by Kimbeast: 12:46pm On Mar 15, 2020 |
larride:I don't think your mortality rate is accurate. That 3% is for the entire world currently. The mortality rate varies from country to country, I think some have 0.2% mortality rate. The question is are there other alternatives? If the alternative is to just hope that a cure or vaccine is made then you're hedging all your bets on something that could take over a year to happen, meanwhile people will be dying. If your solution is to contain the virus then it'll just come around again in the future or from travel and your entire population will still be at risk, there's no good long term solution besides herd immunity or developing a cure/vaccine, and unfortunately there is no vaccine, so the next best solution is herd immunity. |

Chelsea have joined the race for Barcelona's Marc Cucurella, 21, who is on loan at Getafe, with Napoli, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen also interested in the Spanish left-back. Anyone know who the above guy is. At least Chelsea are still trying to improve the team, looking for players. Read teams are going to lose millions if the league is cancel |
| Re: Official Chelsea Fan Thread: Club World Cup Champions 2025-2029 by larride(m): 1:28pm On Mar 15, 2020 |
Kimbeast:I disagree completely that there’s no better alternative than herd immunity. Without no vaccine/cure yet, the best alternative is containment. Like Ibime said, a lot of freedom will have to be sacrificed but it’s way better than putting hundred of thousands of life at risk. |
