Some bad news for Kazi,

The construction of Mwache-Mteza bridge at the Kenyan coast has kicked off. The 1.4 KM bridge will be more than double the length of Tanzania's prized Kigamboni bridge, dwarfing it, and further denting Tanzania's national psyche. The short bridge by Tz opened in 2016, and had been their only source of inspiration to overtake Kenya, seen as a major statement of intent in the land of Magufuli. Now that symbol is almost gone barely five years down the line, swallowed by Kenya's little tolerance for cheap shots. Once done, it will take Tz another generation of breaking sweat to supersede the Kenyan bridge.

The Mteza Bridge is seven times longer than Nyali (bridge) and will reduce costs and time used to cross over to and from South Coast. It will also serve the Dongo Kundu Special Economic Zone

The two phases of the project involves construction of an interchange at the Likoni-Lunga Lunga highway and installation of two bridges: the mteza bridge and the other one at Mwache – spanning 900 metres. The bypass will connect the main corridors; the Nairobi-Mombasa, Mombasa-Malindi and Mombasa-Lunga Lunga highways.

Fujita, which has already deployed heavy machinery at the Mteza, Tsunza, and Miritini sites, is expected to complete the project in 48 months.

Simultaneously, Kenya decided to give bongo a new baby to challenge their Kigamboni, the 660m Mwache Bridge (only 20 meters short of the Kigamboni bridge) which will land on the Tsunza peninsula in Kwale county where it will link up with the second Mteza bridge that will complete the South Coast mainland connection.
