BREAKING] Coronavirus: Lagos announces closure of schools

As part of the preventive measures against the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Lagos State Government has announced the closing down of all public and private schools from Monday, March 23, 2020.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folashade Adefisayo, the move became necessary to prevent children and their teachers from getting more vulnerable to the pandemic.

“It is important for parents to ensure that their children practise ‘social distancing’ while at home, wash their hands regularly or use hand sanitisers and observe high standards of personal hygiene. Children should be encouraged to remain at home.

“The closure is not intended to create panic but to arrest the spread of the disease, which has become a global threat,” the statement said.

Every case of this virus that was recorded in this country are avoidable ,but due to the irresponsive of this irresponsible government . When countries are closing their borders, ours is opening camp . By now all our borders should have been closed ,all schools closed (especially primary schools ),medical team on red alert .God will help us and let all us be careful . We should all remember that prevention is better and cheaper than cure .

Even the ban on international flights is not effective until 20th March, allowing over 48hrs from the time of its declaration for more possible corona cases to stroll into Nigeria. They probably want to allow schools and parents some time to prepare and round up exams where possible...

Has the UK closed its borders even with over 1000 confirmed cases? Has EU closed borders with tens of thousands of confirmed cases? The UK just announced school closures same day as Nigeria, Unfortunately, we have lots of irresponsible lazy youths in Nigeria.

Did you just compare the EU and UK with Nigeria? Are we even 0.25% as prepared as they are in any of those regions to handle the pandemic? And even with all their equipments, its still getting out of hand over there. Like how much testing can we do here?

Lets face facts, our government has handled this virus issue with laxity so far and now a possible widespread is starring us in the face.

Let's just be careful and take the measures advised by scientists.
